Speed Limit anomaly

I posted a couple of years ago a situation where my Nuvi 850 was showing a speed limit of 2km/h in a couple of locations; also appeared on my 2597 and now on my DriveSmart 50. The thing is that now it appears in several other locations and it "seems" that with every new s/w update a new area appears - there are now approx 5 or 6 areas.

This is not a huge issue with me, just curios why it is happening.

A numeral in the filename?

Do your Garmin devices contain Custom POIs installed to the devices with POILoader? The following assumes you do use custom POIs.

Are any of your Custom POI files given a filename with a numeral? If so, in addition to the speed limit issue, you will also find yourself unable to create a route to a location in the file. Is this what's happening?

Note that with many computers, when downloading a file from a website and the filename of the file to be downloaded is already present in the folder you plan to download the new file to, the computer will rename the to-be-downloaded file to something like filename (2).csv which is something that will occur each time a revision to the Custom POI file becomes available for download. If this is the problem, just remove the [space](numeral) and download it as intended: filename.csv. You will be given a warning that a file of that name exists and will be overwritten by the download, but that's OK as it's what you want to do and will result in a Custom POI with no false speed alerts, etc.

Take a look at the folder in your computer that holds the custom POI csv and gpx files. Do any have a numeral in the filename?

Thing to remember

Good one to file in YOUR memory bank for future use.

So if that is the case with the OP that would indicate he is/was using the same POI's consecutively in each newer GPS!

File replacement for existing file on computer

When downloading a file to your computer. For example POI Factory file Arby's. When you click on the Arby's file to download and you get to the folder you want to located it in.Instead of adding a extra file that you may have to edit. Click on the old existing file and the computer will replace the existing file and retain the same name that was there. Less chance for errors and faster.

How did I never know this? I can't wait for my next POI file update.

Copying

I guess I've never run into this since I use the Copy and Paste method. If there is a file in there with the same name, I am asked do you want to replace the existing file.

Saved files

I picked that tip up from someone on POI Factory many years ago and stuck it in the old memory bank. It became a habit when saving my files.Never gave much thought to it until I looked at this post.

I purged all of my custom POIs with numbers in the filenames and it appears to have worked.

Thanks again for your input/assistance.
