GPS Location Sharing Devices & Apps

I am sharing this in here in smartphones & tablets because most devices that have GPS Location Sharing are either two way radio or cellular based. Anyway, does anybody here have or use any devices for GPS Location Sharing?

I was reading about the Fantom Dynamics LINC today and it lists that feature.
https://www.fantom.io/linc/?ct=t(Introducing_LINC2_1_2017)&mc_cid=6f2520d45e&mc_eid=e9120d8f22 I know that the GoTenna http://www.gotenna.com/ will do this, the forthcoming Beartooth https://www.beartooth.com/ and the Garmin RINOs will do this.

Anyway, what sorts of activities do you do where you might like this? One of my hobbies is ATV riding. I can see where it might be handy to "ping" others to see h ow far away they might be.

Also, does anybody here currently use any Android of iOS apps that do this? I know about the Polaris Ride Command, but I really haven't taken the time to use it much yet.

I only use ...

I do use a app to share where each of us are. I use it when we are traveling in a group with several cars/vans. We can tell where everyone is. I also use it when I am going home and share my location with my wife so she knows when to expect me home and maybe pick me up from the bus stop/Subway.

That app is called " Gylmpse " (it is also built into the Verizon Message+ app

I know its not exactly what your looking for but it works pretty good for what I need it to do, and its free!

I Used...

During my hunting years, I used a Garmin Rino 530 HCX with other hunters in our club. The polling feature added a level of convenience and safety in the woods by allowing you to see and be seen by others.

on one noteworthy occasion, a member of our club got stuck in a tree when his stand collapsed. He dropped his Rino in the process and was not able to call for help. When he didn't show up at camp that evening, we were easily able to find his location via the Rino which luckily wasn't damaged in the fall.

I gave up hunting a while back and sold the Rino. It was a fair combination of GPS and FRS radio but excelled at neither.

Can you stop sharing as required

At the risk of seeming paranoid, can the tracking permissions be turned on and off as needed. I thought I heard about an app that couldnt be removed or shut off.

Yes it only turns on when you request it. When you go to the app, it will ask you if you want to share your location with someone, Request to see where someone is. You can set it for a number of min/hours to share with, also can stop the sharing with anyone. you can also share with a group of people.

I do know of some apps that I was looking at where it will always try to share the information at all times. Those I do not want.

This app seems to work very well and you decide when and who you share the information with.

For more information, you can got to " www.glympse.com " and read up on the app. If you got to the Help section, there is a FAQ and one of the questions is how to shut it down completely. Check those out too..

Hope that helps..

Yes. It seem that you have full control of the app, you can even "Exit" out of the app so it is NOT running in the background. As I said before, I was looking for a good app that does this but could not find something that I could trust until I tested this one. Go to the site and read up on it. Lot of good information about it. They do not even track you on the site (Waze does.. BTW, with waze, you can log in and see all your trips that you took)

I Do like this app a lot and does what it says. I even created a account with the web site to see if it does keep any history, etc.. and find it is not.
