New highway.

I was surprised to see that the 2018.10 map included the newly opened extension to highway 100 west in Cedar Rapids. It just opened in mid December, so I was surprised to see it in this update.

Downloading

Downloading now. I got a message that the new map is too large for my 2495LMT and I need to install on a microSD or install a partial region map. Went with the microSD. Now I just need someone to post the large JCV file for my 1390T.

got it.

Downloaded to Zumo 660LM

Downloaded in about 40 minutes. Easy peasy.
Got rid of one off my problems.
Which was could not do an en route without it closing down, from indoors
Wait and see if it has corrected the problem of shutting down for no reason when on the road.

Large JCV

The partial coverage full screen (non photo real) JCV file for the nuvi 8x5 and 14x0 is D3153230A.jcv (26,396,957 bytes). I will replace this useless file with the full coverage file that came with the nuvi 755 map update.

I hear you, I hate the small JCV file that ones with the download on my 1390T. I wish Garmin would post the large JCV for download like before. But, Strephon came thru once again and posted the files for us. smile smile smile

I installed the new version, but mistakes I've noticed with the cartography are still present.

Thank you for the heads-up theogre!

Much appreciated! smile

Thanks

Thank You

Got the update!

ok

updated ok , but this is January 2017 logically the map should have been called 2017.10 but for reasons unknown Garmin calls it 2018.10 lol I guess since they started out wrong they aren't smart enough to correct it or make it logical .

Nice to have an update, but my 3590 device is full! Anything that I can delete to make a little place, or I'm in SD land now?

Went OK for Me

I think. Took about 1/2 hour, no issues. Will have to give it a road test now.

Will update later this week but wonder what the total size, my 3597 is running close to max.

I have an SD card installed but things seem to go faster if everything is on the main memory.

Just Thinking About It

I was just thinking about the latest update. There is still a road I take that is missing the speed limit and I keep hoping a change I submit quite some time ago finally puts the speed limit in the map update.

Updated my 2nd 2460 this morning, went a lot longer, a few hours, but I'm guessing the time of day may have affected it. Otherwise no problems. Next for the Zumo's, they always have to be split between the device and sd card so they will take longer.

missing express, and AV

When I went to do the update, I found Garmin Express not present on my machine. The directory was there, but not the program. Odd. No trouble to download and install a fresh copy.

Another thing I noticed was that my security software was consuming quite a bit of resource during some phases, such as the "activating maps" phase. I suspect I could cut my install time quite a bit if I told the security software not to be suspicious. That might not be a good idea.

My findings

I have the maps on the SD card of my 3 units (Two 255WT + 3597LMTHD) & honestly I have never noticed a difference at all in speed as compared to when the maps were on the internal memory.

I would also think that the GPS would run better & quicker with 2 GB of free space rather than just 50MB.

I don't notice a speed difference either. On my 1390T and 2495LMT I had the maps installed on 16GB Sandisk microSD Extreme Pro 95 MB/sec memory cards. Downgrading the microSD to a Sandisk 16GB Ultra 4o MB/sec card made no difference in speed. The processors in the GPS are just not fast enough to utilize the max speed of these cards. A standard speed microSD card would probably do the same job.

Great

Time to update three GPS

still getting false error re: computer install

Installed to nuvi and computer yesterday, no problems. Installed to zumo and different computer, got message that computer install did not work but device was ok. Looking on computer, it installed. Same story for the last several installs.

.

Thanks will update soon!

2018.10

Finally showed up as available to me last night, so updated unit and computer with GE and had no problems. I know a lot of folks report having problems with GE, but for me I've had less since it came out. I have an old 1490T and sometimes wonder if older units are put at the back of the line? I only use it when on the road in strange areas, so minor delay is unlikely to have real world impact. On the rare occasion where I need Nav locally my phone works fine. Wouldn't be without my GPS when I know I'll be needing Nav a lot.

Thanks

Thanks for the alert

The update downloaded on my slow connection in about 8 hours, about the same time as with recent updates.

GE advised that, due to space, the update would be installed to SD card. First time that happened. Some updates were put on internal storage and some on SD card. After the update, I noticed that there was 245mb free on internal storage. I moved the POI files from internal storage to the SD card.

All seems ok now.

Interesting. Can you tell us the filesize of the .img file on the SD card? With only 245MB of free space on the 3597 itself, most of the 2018.10 map must be installed internally with only a small portion placed on the card. My 3597 with all seven English language voices added (but foreign language voices deleted) had a couple hundred MB of free space left with the entire North America map installed internally.

If it turns out that all or most of the map update is on your SD card, then I'd worry about some unneeded ghost files taking up space on your nuvi. If all the map was installed to the SD card, I'd expect nearly 3GB of free space on yours. It'll be interesting to hear your SD .img file size.

Sorry to take so long to respond. gmapprom.img on SD card is 2,757,824kb. SD card also contains .gma and .unl files. Also JCV directory created containing one file. I checked storage on the GPS and most storage used within .system in ASR and SID directories and gmapdem and gmap3d files. Everything else is minor.

I had already removed unneeded voice files, etc. Only thing that might be considered unusual is that I have some supplemental maps installed on the SD card that have been there for at least a year.
