Garmin inReach Explorer+ Vs. Garmin inReach SE+ And Legacy DeLorme InReach Explorer Vs. DeLorme InReach SE

I know that the acquisition of DeLorme by Garmin was reported here last year. More recently I have been looking at both the legacy DeLorme offering and the new Garmin offerings.

On the Cabelas.com website, the legacy DeLorme InReach Explorer and DeLorme InReach SE are still listed as available. Currently, they are both on sale. I suppose of the supply of the DeLorme made devices will start to dry up at some point.

I did notice a couple of interesting things, too. The MSRP of the DeLorme InReach Explorer is $379.99 and the MSRP of the DeLorme InReach SE is $299.99.

The MSRP of the Garmin InReach Explorer is $449.99 and the MSRP of the Garmin inReach SE+ is $399.99.

When I do a comparison between the two Garmin inReach products, it would seem that the main differences are that the Garmin inReach Explorer+:

-Preloaded Topo Maps

-Ability To Add Maps

-Has 2GB Of Built-In Memory

In my way of thinking, those difference would seem to be well worth the $50..00 price difference. I am still working on what other differences there are between the DeLorme versions and the Garmin versions.

I did also notice this footnote: ²Preloaded DeLorme TOPO maps are not compatible with other Garmin devices. Other Garmin maps not compatible with this device.

I wonder/suspect/hope that the future of these type of devices is that they will be compatible with Garmin TOPO and other Garmin maps.
