Hiding unnecessary icons

The blind factory preloaded icons on my Garmin DriveSmart 60LMTHD are irritating me. Those gas and restaurant icons without brand icon. Is there a way to hide them? I do not need to see that a restaurant is coming if I do not know what brand. I do not need to know that a gas station is coming if I have full tank. The icons cover streets what I do not like.

regarding customizing map layers. One thing to note is that if your Drivesmart 60 is like the recent nuvi models that removing these built in icons will also remove any Custom POI icons you have loaded with your custom POIs, if any.
With my nuvi 3597, I also disliked the icons and removed them. Later, I decided I'd rather keep all these icons to be able to display my custom POI icons.
Good luck.
Thanks
Was wondering the same at one point.

I found a workarround
The unit show only 3 types of icons, so I replaced the with one not that popular: speed cameras, parking and rest area. Click Settings - Up Ahead, choose one item and click Setting again. Click any item and replace them.
