Garmin 2597 starting intermittent

Since yesterday my 2597 only starts intermittently. I was using it most of the day, however after I picked my wife up from work, it wouldn't turn on. A few hours later after being stopped for awhile, it turned on again; later not. Wouldn't start first time this morning, but did later, then not again. Right now won't turn on in the car, connected to my PC or with the switch with no external power.

Sounds like you have charging issues.
They need to be fairly well charged in order to turn on. Sounds like your getting some charge but not enough. What does the battery icon show?

Power cable
It sounds like the power cable has a problem. Sometimes they don't make good contact in the receptacle because the compression springs get weak or break inside the plug. It could also be the power receptacle on the car side as well. If you have an alternate source, try it.

Sometimes chips can
Sometimes chips can malfunction only when HOT. I've seen technicians use a can of refrigerant to cool one chip after another to see when a computer board will start working.
However you live in Canada and it must be plenty cold there.
Perhaps it is malfunctioning in the cold, and works well at room temperature?
Or maybe not.

Denifetly not a heat prob this time of year! Doesn't work in the house either, plugged in or not. Yesterday went shopping - worked on the way there, not on the way home. Worked this AM when driving wife to work.
Have a new battery ordered; think that may be the issue.

I had one Nuvi with the power button getting intermittent. It always turned on when the power was applied, though. Have you tried unplugging your car charger and plugging it in again?
Hibernation Mode?

The issue made be caused by the 2597 in Hibernation mode draining the battery. If the battery gets too weak it won't turn on even when connected to a PC since it doesn't have enough power to boot even when connected to the power cable from the cigarette lighter. If you own a wall charger (1.0 amp) it should be able to charge the Nuvi so it can boot.
