Proximity Alert

There is a POI file called Offbeat Tourist Attractions, which is very interesting. I'd like to set up a proximity alert so when I'm within 3 mile radius of any one of those POIs the garmin will sound/show alert. However, it seem that the GPS will alert only if I'm routed through that POI. If you would make a left turn within two mile radius of the POI then GPS will not sound any alarm. Anyone has different experience?

GPS in question is 3597LM.

Check the Factory's Garmin FAQs for TourGuides to meet your needs. Note that TourGuides require a custom audio file to work and for your 3597, you'll need to use a wav file. It looks like we have several FAQs here on TourGuides to help get you going.

Once you've been through the FAQs and maybe tried setting one up, let us know if you have any questions. Good luck and have fun.

Maybe I am wrong, but I set my alerts to well under 1/2 mile distance. At that, I get at least one or two alerts before I get to the ALERT point.

I would assume, judging by my experience, that a setting of 3 MILES would give almost continuous alerts, which would drive me nuts !

A TourGuide alert is ok for some files.

It won't work on say a file like McDonalds but would be ok for Offbeat Tourist attractions. I have mine set for 2 miles for this file.
