If I find an error or a missing point, how do-I go about getting the information to the person in charge of the file?

Try
Try using the contact tab on the file owners user account page.

As bdhsfz6 said above Try using the contact tab on the file owners user account page..
This is usually straight forward but I am going to give some additional directions just to make sure you have the correct maintainer of the file - because some POIs are split up geographically, for example:
- you should go to the View all POI files (listed alphabetically).
You find this link to POIs listed alphabetically by first clicking on the "POI Files" tab in the upper right corner of most pages (Ctrl-click if you want it to open in a new tab}. This will bring up the page http://www.poi-factory.com/poifiles
Scroll down until you find the alphabetical link and click it.
On the page listing all of the POI files in alphabetic order, you can do a Ctrl-F and search for the file you wish to offer a correction to. You would then click on the link indicated.
On the page that that file links to, you will find something like
24 hour pharmacies - Kiawah area
Submitted by jgermann on Sat, 01/09/2010 - 3:15pm.
You would then click on the link that follows the words "Submitted by" and will be taken to the account page of the maintainer of the specific POI file you are interested in.
For example
User account
JM
I think almost every maintainer has a "Contact" tab, but in the off chance that they do not, then you could contact JM or Globe Turtle with the information.
