New Maps Update

I have a Garmin Nuvi 2699 LMTHD. When I updated the maps in early January 2016 it sometimes now will show the opposite direction and tell me to turn opposite of the way I should go and turn. This usually happens when I first put in the search and it calculates. Has anyone else had this problem. Didn't seem to do it before the update. Any ideas?

No

But difficult to tell without more details. Is this always from a specific location? Or any location?

Similar Problem

In the past my 3490 was doing the same thing, but haven't seen the issue for some time now. When I started a route from my driveway, thump would show the correct direction, but the voice would say to turn in the opposite direction. Only time it occurred was the first turn of the route. Knowing to watch for it and compensate, it wasn't a real problem.

My experience

The only time I've ever seen this is at the beginning of a route when the GPS creates the route while it's still gaining additional satellite location info, so the route created thinks my start point is across the street, for example. That could cause an instruction to turn the wrong way. Even when this happens, it only occurs at the beginning of my route. I expect that I could eliminate the problem if I wait for a better satellite fix before asking the GPS to create a route.

Always been that way on my 3790

I can't exactly define the circumstances, but having the very first turn spoken direction be faulty when setting out has been so common on my 3790 since I got it that I regard as normal. I just make a habit of looking carefully at the map screen and matching the magenta line suggestion there to the real territory around me.

I seriously doubt it has anything to do with the revised map data you just loaded.

I am less sure but I think that my 855 often did something similar. I do not think my (much older) GPS V did this.

It's Not the Map Update

Probably an anomaly during initial start of travel. Should correct shortly thereafter. Better to let GPS settle down before starting out.

I have experienced the same with several of my earlier Garmin Nuvis. I have not experienced the error since I started using with 3597. It could be a coincidence.

In my previous experience, the error occurred when I was back out of my driveway or a parking stall. I think Nuvis could not tell I was travelling backwards and had the left and right reversed.

I believe Garmin realized the deficiency. In the current versions of firmware, the spoken directions for the first couple of turns or so are omitted. The 3597 starts with "Please drive to the highlighted route" and thus avoids the left-turn/right-turn reversal error.

Good thoughts

Thanks. Good thoughts. And for the last paragraph above, good for Garmin!

My 2450 always

My 2450 has always said "Please drive to the highlighted route" when a route starts up.

no problems here

Have not had problems for awhile now with map updates, go on smooth and work fine.

I always do a Master Reset after a map/firmware update

A Master reset after a map or firmware update clears out working data that may affect operations.

http://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?caseId={a1f85d30-a65f-11e4-4df3-000000000000}#200205

Master Reset does affect setup.
Here's a list that may need to be reapplied after a Master Reset on my Zumo.

Safe mode
Screen brightness (auto, motorcycle and offline)
Master volume (auto, motorcycle and offline)
Location country
Voice selection
Motorcycle and auto icons
Motorcycle fuel monitor settings
Favorites (backup before a Master Reset)
Recently Found is cleared
Satellite acquisition information must be rescanned outdoors for 10-20 minutes
Avoidances
Keyboard Layout
Map Detail & Layout
Bluetooth
Home Location
Restore Favorites
Restore Routes
Choose displayed data fields with/without route active
All maps are selected after a reset
