I wouldn't disagree, Mark, if I could download it. But I can't. I wonder what has changed between the last version and this version of the JCV file. The only reason I haven't gone to the newest version of the map is because I don't want to lose the large JCV.
Is there any other way I can download the large JCV?
Phil
I haven't read that you've tried a different browser other than Internet Explorer. If this is correct, download and install Chrome, then try using Chrome to access the large JCV download.

I'm a weenie when it comes to making changes to my environment. I don't feel at all comfortable installing Chrome. I'm afraid that something that's important to me and has always worked will stop working and I wouldn't know how to fix it.

I just use jdownloader to download files it doesn't make a difference what browser you use and its free just right click on the file and download .
@ plunder
I'm very very cautious myself as what I download onto my computer and have found a site that is trustworthy.
The site is called Ninite ( https://ninite.com/ ) & it downloads the program without any toolbars/junkware. I've used them in the past and 100% satisfied.
Google it and see what others have to say concerning this site and you'll be reassured:

what's wrong with garmin?
My nuvi doesn't use JCV files and when I'm reading topic like this one every map update I wonder, if Garmin really can't do just simple options, included in MapUpdater or GE, to add small or big JCV file to map update? It's not that big deal as big JCV file is prepared by them anyway.
MEGA - This is weird
I can't download the JCV file via my browser, so I tried via MEGAsync. I tried to create an account, but Mega says I already have one. Okay. I don't remember creating one but okay, I'll just sign in and download the file. Comes the time to enter my password, I don't have the foggiest idea what it is. No problem, I'll just request it, and I'll be on my way. But this is where it gets weird. They don't have any mechanism (that I could find) for a user to recover their password. So, I can't open a Mega account because I already have one; and I can't use my account because I don't remember my password.
Anyone? Anyone?

2 cents mode on
Only a few older Garmin devices offering full screen JVs can benefit from the large JCV file, specifically the nuvi 8x5, the 1390 and the 14xx series. Of these, the 1390 and 14xx devices offer the map update to a SD card (allowing space for the large JCV file to be installed with a map update automatically when the SD option is chosen) while the 8x5 series does not offer the SD card map update option. These models were released in 2009. I'm not sure when each series was officially discontinued but all have been discontinued several years ago.
I expect that Garmin could offer a Garmin Express version that incorporates the suggestions you make, one for the 1390/14xx series to offer the large JCV if space is available on the SD card, and another probably more difficult option to offer to install the large JCV file to a SD card if present on the 8x5 series. I can imagine that Garmin could have two reasons for not doing this: 1) it would create a lot of work and potentially introduce bugs into the GE software, all for long-discontinued models; and 2) it would lessen the urge of the 8x5/1390/14xx owners to upgrade to a newer model.
Although I'd like to see you suggestion put into place since I own a nuvi 855, I can see why Garmin hasn't done so. To give Garmin some credit, they have for a while (but no longer) offered the large JCV file as a free manual download for folks who want to manually substitute the file for the default small JCV file installed during map updates. Additionally, Garmin has stated that they have no problem with a person offering to share the large JCV file with others who could benefit from it. Garmin could have chosen to not authorize the sharing of the file making the distribution of the file as bad as sharing unlocked map updates.
Finally, I expect that the users here at The POI Factory are not a representative sample of all 8x5/1390/14xx owners and that most of these owners don't care or even know about the tiny and large JCV files making it an even lower priority for Garmin to revise the map updating software.
2 cents mode off
I have to agree.

I have to agree with you. There is no legitimate technical reason that prevents Garmin from making this file available as part of the map update.
But as CraigW has indicated I suspect Garmin has determined that the development and support costs involved in the solution are not justified for the small number of customers that would benefit. That said, I think Garmin should provide the file as a separate download for those customers that are willing to put in the additional effort. But then I guess there would still be support costs in helping customers install the file.
It will be interesting to see what Garmin does with the 7x5 nuvi series which is still getting the full JCV file with the map update. But this unit is now very close to being in the same situation as the 1390/14xx nuvi in that it is almost out of space in internal storage. My 755T nuvi with all unnecessary files deleted is now down to about 50 MB of free space with the full NA map and large JCV file. So what will Garmin do when it will no longer fit? Will they treat it like the 14xx and give us a worthless JCV file, or give us the full JCV file with the option to install the map to SD? It remains to be seen. If they continue to give us 7x5 users the large JCV file using the SD option, then why not on the 1390/14xx?

My 765 had a SD card in it when I last updated. GE gave me the D3060200A.jcv file in the Garmin/JCV folder on the 765 and put the map (at 2,518,016 bytes) on the SD card

I have the D3060200A.jcv file on my SD card. The previous jcv files that I have listed as disabled, can I delete them?

Yes

Yes. But it's always nice to copy them to a hard drive at least for a short time even though you've already done the smart move of disabling them first and seeing that all's well.
You will have one jcv file for your City Navigator North America and all others are for older maps that I am assuming are no longer there in the nuvi or on the SD card.
More space added
I did copy the 3 old disabled JCV files to my desktop. Then deleated the 3 old files from my SD card. I added 2.35 GB more, available to the SD card. More room for something. In BaseCamp, I have maps dating back to 2012. Don't know why I keep them. I assume they are on my desk top computer. Big hard drive.
Thanks CraigW

Thanks for posting the large JCV file. No problem downloading it with Mozilla Firefox.
As for old maps, I have the newest to use with Basecamp and /or MapSource. I also keep one, the immediate last map as well.
Remember they do use a fair amount of space at about 3.5 GB each.
It may slow your computer down a tad since to find anything it must also search through these unused map files.

Large JCV
Downloaded the large JCV and pasted it into the 2797 and did a simulated run on a nearby multilane highway.
It still only gives me the split screen. So I deleted it and went back to the version Garmin installed at half the kb's.

As far as I can imagine, the only way this will happen is if the split screen jcv file is still present and not disabled. I suggest doing a scan of the entire nuvi for all .jcv files making sure that the nuvi is in MS mode, not MTP.
Not counting your manually-loaded JCV file(s), the default location for the .jcv file is in your nuvi 2797's \.System\JCV\ folder and I'd look there first for the split screen file that's preventing your large JCV from being used.
You could also try a full power down and restart after pasting the large jcv file, not just letting the nuvi sleep.
Just to check, your large jcv file is the 800-ish MB file intended for the map version you have installed and the default split-screen version is the 400-ish MB file. Yes?
Even
Even in USB (MS) mode, will the .system/JCV folder be visible without making the required changes to the Windows OS ( Unhide system files, etc.)?

No
It won't. As well as mass storage mode you need to set Windows to show both Hidden and System files.

I agree
I agree this problem would appear to be 2 JCV files present. Possibly the large downloaded JCV file is not in the right location, or the downloaded file isn't the proper file for the map update version on the device but if the split screen views are still appearing then it would appear that there are at least 2 JCV files present, which is never a good thing.

Large JCV
GE informed me that my 2797 is running low on space. There are no photos and unused language or help files, they have all been deleted already. But regardless GE installed the complete 2017.10 file including a JCV of about 400 KB on the device. There was enough room left to install the large JCV file still, file # D3060200A.jcv @ 846.348 KB.
After I downloaded the large JCV and unzipped it I installed it on the device in the JCV folder. I renamed the Garmin provided 400 KB JCV file by changing the extension to .-j-c-v which should prevent it from being read.
Incidently my 2797 now showed about 183 MB of space left. I suppose in future I'll have to use a SD card in the 2797.

Thanks for the update. What continues to confuse me are the following:
-The large JCV file (the over 800MB file) is a full screen display of Junction Views. If it's the JCV file in use, you will have full screen JVs. You say that even with the large JCV installed and the default JCV disabled, you receive a split screen JV. To me, this means the large JCV file is not being used. This also means to me that there is a split screen jcv file on your 2797 which is active and being used.
-I would expect a nuvi 2797, especially one with unneeded language/help files, etc., to have 1GB or more of free space with the default City Navigator map and jcv file. Since you've just disabled but not deleted the default jcv file and have also added the large jcv file, I can see why you may now only have 0.2GB or so of free space. Is there any chance that you have other older jcv files or older supplemental maps on the device, especially if you manually added the large JCV file in previous map updates? Have you ever used MapInstall to install a map to the nuvi? Have you ever used the clone technique to update a map? When you disabled the jcv file (.-j-c-v on this map and .=j=c=v on an earlier map update from a previous thread), is there any chance that some of these disabled files are still present—a map update will not delete these disabled files when performing a map update and these could be wasting space on the 2797.
-I also see that we've been through many of these issues with the previous map update and didn't resolve them then either:
http://www.poi-factory.com/node/45264
Are your jcv files in the JCV folder in the .system folder? Can you see the .system folder and contents? Have you done a search for all .jcv files in the nuvi as I asked earlier? Am I correct in assuming that the 2797 does not have a SD card installed? If there is a SD card, what's on it?
I may be reading something into your reply that you did not intend, but it seems to me that you're thinking Garmin should have offered the large JCV file to your nuvi 2797 since space was available. Because of several disadvantages to using full-screen JCV files, new nuvis for quite some time have come with split screen JVs and for the vast majority of users, this is the JCV file that is preferred. Are you one of the tiny minority of users who prefer the full screen JV display and if so, can I ask why? In a thread discussing the 2016.10 map update and its large JCV file, you even posted a message stating that you found the split screen JVs on your 2797 to be great:
http://www.poi-factory.com/node/44985
More on using the large JCV file on split-screen nuvis:
http://www.poi-factory.com/node/45292
But all in all, assuming you do prefer to use the large jcv file with its full screen display and if you install the large jcv file to your nuvi in the proper location with all other jcv files removed or deleted, you will get a full screen JV display. Since you're still receiving a split screen display after adding the large jcv file and renaming the smaller default jcv file, there must be a jcv file other than the large jcv file which is still active. The only way this could be wrong is if for some reason, the 2797 is incapable of using the large JCV file. I haven't seen this reported, but then the vast majority of 2797 owners prefer the default split screen JV display and therefore haven't tried installing and using the large JCV file.

No other renamed JCV's either by manually looking into the JCV folder."
Is there any chance that you have other older jcv files or older supplemental maps on the device, especially if you manually added the large JCV file in previous map updates?
"Not a chance. If there were they would surely be overwritten"
Have you ever used MapInstall to install a map to the nuvi?

When you disabled the jcv file (.-j-c-v on this map and .=j=c=v on an earlier map update from a previous thread), is there any chance that some of these disabled files are still present—a map update will not delete these disabled files when performing a map update and these could be wasting space on the 2797.

Well, you've certainly covered the bases and have the experience to make it work. You've also tried the large JCV file in your 2797 with more than one and maybe more than two map versions in the past year or so and you consistently get no full screen JV image in the 2797 while getting it to work as expected in the 855.
We do know that our Strephon has written that the large JCV file is not usable by the Essential Series nuvis due to differences in the image format. I wonder if there's some issue preventing the large jcv file from being usable by the 2797 or maybe all 7" display devices. To check this out, we'd need some other 7" device owners to download and install the large JCV file, disable their default jcv file, then give it a test on theirs.
I do see a interesting experiment that you could do. With both files installed to your 2797 and both disabled (your .-j-c-v or my addition of a .disabled after the .jcv), try a run and see if no JVs are shown when navigating or simulating a route. If no JVs appear (which is what we should expect if there is no .jcv file present), re-enable one at a time and try some runs and see if the JVs reappear as we would expect. Look carefully at them and see if they appear to be the identical images. Although more work, rather than disabling the files, you could (with proper computer backups) delete the jcv files (default and large) from the 2797 and then see what JVs, if any, are offered on running some routes. It'd be a real challenge for us to explain away a potential result where JVs continue to display with all jcv files deleted or disabled.
Another interesting experiment would be to borrow your lent 3790 with its 4.3" display and see if you can get full screen JVs to appear on it with the current map and jcv file version. You've had success in the past and this would be just to make sure things haven't changed with the 3790 and large jcv file.
I'm not sure what conclusions we could make based on the results of these tests but it'd be interesting to see what does happen.
Thanks for your patience and perseverance. And thank goodness you are content to accept the default split screen JVs on your 2797.
Agree.

... not worth the effort and aggravation. That said, did you look for an extraneous .jcv file in the \Garmin\JCV folder, both internal storage and SD card?
But, as you said, other than satisfying our curiosity about why it isn't working, not worth the effort to figure it out.

Craig I gave my daughter the 3790 and she would not be able to update the LM, not enough savvy. Since it is due for an update and I do not want to let it go for the 2 year cutoff, I will do that and also try the large JCV on it.
I'll report back on that sometime in a week.

Craig I gave my daughter the 3790 and she would not be able to update the LM, not enough savvy. Since it is due for an update and I do not want to let it go for the 2 year cutoff, I will do that and also try the large JCV on it.
I'll report back on that sometime in a week.
Thanks. It's not a problem. I was typing my 'experiment' to you as you were typing your 'I give up on the large JCV 2797' reply and I understand if you want to stop where you are now.
I expect you will continue to add the large jcv file to your 855 though.
lost track of updates
Isn't it too soon for 2017.2
Probably
Isn't it too soon for 2017.2
Probably but this thread is about the 2017.1 Large JCV file.

Just a thought here, but are you perhaps confusing the 2797's Active Lane Guidance with Junction View?

Unless I am wrong Active Lane Guidance is a "cartoon like" display as a split screen. It will also briefly show a split screen Junction view.
My 855 will show me a "Photo realistic full screen" (Junction view) view of the same scene.
Thanks for replying S_A, but as I said I am giving up on the 2797 large JCV. Not worth the extra time to work with it.

I understand you gave up on
I understand you gave up on it. Sensible move since your device's Junction View works best with split screen.
Active Lane Guidance is an animated view of the intersection as you move through it. It looks a lot like Junction View, and persists even if the Junction View file is removed, as it is a separare entity. So, I don't think you have an issue with conflicting Junction View files or something like that.

Large JCV on 3790
I got my old 3790 back from my daughter and updated to the 2017.10 map. Took about 1 hour. Garmin installed the 800 kb JCV as I expected it would.
I now disabled, not deleted the JCV by renaming it to -D*****.-j-c-v. I then copied the large jcv file to the JCV folder.
Turned off the 3790 and then restarted it.
Now I did a simulated run on the nearby multi-lane highway. Works like a charm. I get the full screen photo-realistic view of exits etc. I now deleted the smaller JCV file.
So what I am saying is this, the 3790 will obviously use the larger file whereas the 2797 can not since I did the exact same thing in both GPS's.

Thanks for the report.
When you say that the 3790 received the 800 kb file during the map update, did you mean the 400-ish MB split screen file?
Then you replaced it with the full-screen large JCV and the large JCV worked?
It's certainly starting to sound like the large JCV file will not work on the 2797 for some reason. I will add this to my FAQ. Thanks again for the effort.
My bad
Sorry Craig, I meant the 3790 received the 400 kb file from Garmin, my bad. Yes the 400 kb is/was a split screen!

Ha, I'm just trying to keep you honest—and to let you know that your posts are being read.
I have updated my FAQ and referenced this thread so that if others try to install the large JCV file on a 2797 or other 7" display nuvi, that they let us know their results.
Nuvi 855
A long time ago I bought the Lifetime update for my now ancient Nuvi 855.
I still keep everything as up to date as possible. Maps, POI's etc. But Maps and JCV files are all installed to an 8 GB SD card.
Because of a former problem when a GPS crapped out on me near Kansas City, a long way from home and I was left without any navigation i.e maps even, I carry the 855 as a back-up.
Now I also copied the large JCV file to the SD card, disabled the tiny 25 kb Garmin supplied JCV using my method, copied the large 800 Kb file to the SD card and did my simulator run on the nearby highway. The 855 also gives me the full screen photo-realistic screen.

@Melaqueman
The files are in MB, not KB. The former is a thousand times larger than the latter, but how nice would it be to have a 800KB JCV file with all the views?
Garmin needs to work on their compression algorithm.

But what about a 800KB JCV file with seven views?
2017.10 Large JCV
Does anyone know where I can get this file here, the link to download has expired? I do not want to use the Garmin website as my gps is in my headunit in my truck. I need to download to the internal sd card, which I do whenever something changes.
Thanks,
