2017.10 large JCV thread

I have a Nuvi 1450 for which Garmin no longer offers the large JCV file. Thankfully, one finally shows up somewhere sometime and we users of the older hardware can still get it.

Let's use this thread for people to post where to find the new, large JCV file and instructions on how to download and install it.

JCV file

The new one on my 775T weighs in at 866,660,352 bytes. It's a biggie to upload.

Lagre JCV upload

Previously someone loaded the large jcv onto https://mega.nz/ This site has quite fast downloads and doesn't make your anti-virus go nuts. I would suggest that this site be used for the new Large JCV.
Mark

Is it for 2017.10?

Mark

baumback, are you sure that this is the correct large .JCV file for 2017.10? Just making sure.
And is it all one download or is it two downloads that we have to put together?

No, just a suggestion for someone to upload the 2017.10 Large JCV to the mega.nz site rather than some of the other share sites which limit bandwidth.
Mark

I misunderstood

Sorry, Mark, when I read your original post, I thought you meant the new file was already there, not that you were recommending it for someone to upload the new file to.

The correct name for the 2017.10 full screen full coverage JCV file that comes with the nuvi 7x5 and zumo 66x devices is d3060200A.JCV. If you find this file available somewhere, it should work on your nuvi 1450.

I know I've asked this before but I can't remember the answer. When a new update comes out there is always a "Large JVC" file node to follow. It always confuses me.

Does this file contain more junction views than the one loaded with the map update or is this file for those whole like the junction view to fill the entire screen? Or both?

Personally I like the split screen showing both the map and junction view and don't want to change that, however if I am missing out on the amount of split screen views I would take the file.

If you haven't read this faq yet, start here:

More recently, I did a test and found that the commonly stated claim that the split screen JVC file contains the identical the number of junctions offered as the the Large JCV file offers is not correct but I don't have much information on how the number of junctions with a JCV entry varies between files. But in general, the findings in the above faq are still what I believe, especially my thoughts on the two groups of people that will benefit from manually installing the Large JCV, and that everyone else can ignore discussions of the large file.

Here's the thread offering examples confirming that the typically-stated understanding of JCV files and each file's number of junctions with a "view" is not always correct:

Look for my reply with the Subject While We Wait and subsequent discussion.

thanks for the help

the D3060200A.jvc LaneAssistFull is the correct one for the nuvi 1450 I just ran it thru the simulator and it showed the road signs above and it was a full view not a split view thanks again

To clarify

Just to clarify, the nuvi 1450 will never be able to use split screen JCV files or to offer split screen JVs. The 1450 will receive with each map update a tiny full screen JCV file and when made available, can have the full screen" large JCV file" manually installed to the device and replace the small default file that came with the map update. This is true for the following nuvi models: nuvi 8x5, 1390, and 14xx.

thanks

Thanks, I do remember reading that page now.

I have trouble finding old threads that I haven't personally commented in here. Navigation on this forum is difficult in that no other I visit is like it and I don't spend as much time rooting around as I do the more common forum layouts.

In any event I am among the don't bother with the large JCV thread now that my memory has been freshed. I like the split screen.

Yes indeed, it appears that like me, you are in the majority of users in preferring the split screen JV display which is automatically included with each map update and you can ignore current and future discussions of the large JCV file.

I agree that it is a challenge to find and to repost info from earlier threads and that this is a function of the software that runs this web site. I find that a search for something that I know exists is a challenge but that searching here with multiple search words can find what you're looking for. I was able to find the thread showing that JCV files offer different JVs by using the search terms CraigW large jcv Flagstaff since I remembered posting to the thread and had data describing my test results in Flagstaff AZ. Another way to search that often works for me is to do a Google search for my search terms and let Google find the thread in the POI Factory that I'm looking for. In both cases, it's still a real challenge to find the exact reply I'm looking for, especially when the forum thread is many pages long. Given the software running the forums here, it's something we need to accept.

site keyword

One of the tricks that I use when searching in Google is to use the "Site" keyword.

Start the search with "site:poi-factory.com" followed by words that you think might be on the page that you are looking for.

Also, you can enclose in quotes several words like "large junction view" or "large jvc"

If you are looking for a FAQ, then add the term "submitted"

try this:
site:poi-factory.com "large junction" submitted

And by the way, one could also go the the
INDEX to FAQs and Other Pages
and go to Junction View

JCV File Download

I made a separate post for the download. It's at http://www.poi-factory.com/node/45658

What UPLOAD ??

Baumback that link is asking for an UPLOAD file..Does not offer a Download..

And I also have a question..Would it be Illegal to have those JCV avaiable on this web site so people can get from here?

After all this web site as been very beneficial to Garmin for many year.

The large JCV file is now being offered for download:

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/45658

It has been reported a couple of times that offering files like the large JCV file is acceptable by Garmin and therefore not illegal. However, I doubt that The POI Factory is set up to offer a nearly 1GB file for downloading without causing access problems to us regular users checking for POI files or forum messages although that's just my guess. I've not downloaded from the currently offered site (thanks to the upload by our Strephon) but gather from what I read here that it's a good site for big downloads like this.

I hate to ask

You have no idea how much I hate to ask this.

If I understand this correctly, you load the JVC file into the JVC folder that's in the .system folder of your SD.

I have2 JVC folders in the internal storage, one in .system and one outside of it. I do not have a .system folder in my SD or a JVC folder.
Now I read that you just create a JVC floder for the file, but what about the .system folder?

I'll give it a shot.

Disable the JVC file in internal storage, delete the one loose JVC folder, create a JVC flder on the SD and put the JVC file into it.

@Scoville

I am not sure what you are asking, as both Garmin Express and Map Updater will put the .jcv file in the correct folder for your device as part of the map update process. This is true whether or not a SD card is required.

However, if you are manually installing the .JCV file for whatever reason, it depends on your your device model and whether you are putting the file on SD card. If you are putting the .JCV file on SD card, the .JCV file goes in folder \Garmin\JCV. If you are putting it in internal storage, it depends on your device model. On older devices that do not have \.system folder, the .JCV file goes in folder \Garmin\JCV. On newer devices with a \.system folder the .JCV file goes in folder \.system\JCV if you are putting it in internal storage.

AFAIK, there is never any reason to have a \.system folder on a SD card in a Garmin Device.

I'm not sure either. The mapupdater loaded the map into the SDbut no jcv can be found.I'll have to study it some more. Thanks.

That was my concern. Thank you.

The D3060200A JCV file works on my 1390T for full screen. As CraigW mentioned, you have to manually install it.
