Nuvi Line Being Replaced

Garmin has announced a new line of automotive GPS units called Drive. For detail see:

The Nuvi has had a great run since the first 350 was released in 2005 but it looks like that run has come to an end.

What will happen to support for my NUVI 2460LMT and 3580LMT?

POI Factory member "Preroll" went to this years CES show and asked the Garmin folks a few questions, one was:

*Is NUVI Line Dead? - Yes but lifetime maps are still going to be supported.

If they stop publishing the map update for the Nuvi, it is the real sign to update....

I like the dash cam option

I really like the dash cam feature..

Right now I have my Nuvi stuck on my dash and a dash cam stuck on the windshield behind the rear view mirror.

Incorporating these two devices into one will save some space. Not only that, but when I leave my car parked in the city, I have two devices to unmount and carry away with me. With the new Garmin, there will only be one.

Not to hijack this post BUT

As I was reading this I just realized with our built in Navigation System in our Honda Accord we do not have to unhook and put in my purse and carry stuff. The system is built in and the rear view camera is built in. I forgot how much of a hassle that was to do. OK, one very good reason to have a built in unit. I know, I know, it can never be as good as my Nuvi but in town it is ok. I will still take my Nuvi on trips and have to unplug and carry in every where we go, but maybe someday Garmin will make a unit for whatever car we get and it will be as great as my stand alone Nuve. (wishful thinking).

Uh... oh................

Ouch! I think Garmin made a good effort here to add new features, but the lack of support among GPS/Garmin fans as seen in many of the comments above has me even more concerned for their future. Has The Ship Sailed??
