What's the purpose?

We all know that our units are not accurate in the sense of getting us to our destinations faster or even with better fuel mileage. We can all relate to this by using our units at home. Generally speaking we can get to our destination faster than our Garmin's can. Garmin units don't know rush hours and other variables. It learns? sometimes...lol. When we go somewhere where we have never been it all doesn't matter if we get there 10 or 15 minutes later, we just want to get there. We don't know how long it should take anyways. Now what about the possibility that Garmin likes to take you down streets that have lots of street lights if it can? I've had this obsession to get both of my Garmin's to take a street with only two lights rather than one with 7. They both will take me home. The one with 2 lights is not a main thoroughfare but the one with 7 is. The one with 7 lights is a longer distance, further away to use coming off of the highway. No matter what i do it does not want me to take the shorter and also faster route. I can hit detour till the Cows come home, it will reroute every road but the one i want. question

Simple

Use a via or waypoint, the route home via the waypoint.

(Oh, every GPS knows traveling one millimeter less distance over a surface street with light and stop signs is always faster than the limited access road.)

hmm

That of course will work but not my point. Way-point and via is user controlled, wasn't talking about that.

?

Have you tried setting it to minimize distance routing? Had to ask.

Have you performed a hard reset? I've seen a GPS get rather strong willed once in a while, and cycling off and on a couple times seems to work. What works most often is to set it to "minimize distance" and calculate a route, then set it to "minimize time" and calculate a route, or vice versa. That seems to get its head on straight.

When you are dead, you don’t know that you are dead. It is only difficult for the others. It is the same when you are stupid.

I've been using...

I've been using my Nuvi 3590 a lot lately. In fact it's the most I've used it in well over a year. I took it on a 90 minute trip today to pick up some last minute Christmas gifts in an area I have never been before. It got me there one way and took me home on a completely different route that ended up putting me in some serious traffic. Oh and it also had me take a right out of the store parking lot and around the block right past the store again... Would have saved me 10 minutes if it would have had me make a left instead. It was frustrating.

Wish I could figure out a way to get it to take me back the same route it got me there with.
