Firefox 43.0.1 and Garmin Communicator

Firefox just automatically updated to 43.0.1 and it disabled Garmin Communicator. The Garmin website has a note that says "Firefox No Longer Supports this Plugin

The page you are trying to access no longer works with this web browser. To help, Garmin has created a secure shortcut to open the Internet Explorer web browser on your computer and take you safely to the Garmin.com page you need."

I noticed that.

On my system (Win 7 Home), it was the Garmin communicator extension that was disabled but the plug-in still there.

On Windows 10 it shows Garmin Communicator 4.2.0.0 was disabled.
Edit. Also shows Skype is known to cause security or stability issues.Didn't disable it though.

Windows 10 machine also.

Firefox just updated itself. I went and rechecked the add-ons to be sure. Re-installed to be doubly sure.

Firefox says good to go. Hope it stays that way. I've got several Garmin devices and I use Firefox as my preference.

As Of Firefox Version 43

All plug-ins / add-ons must be "signed".

The latest version of Communicator at addons.mozilla.org indicates it is signed, so replacing your current copy of Communicator by downloading the latest copy from there should solve the problem.

Questions

1. What does "signed" signify?

2. What is the risk incurred if you disable* the requirement for an add-on to be "signed"?

*(Go to about:config, scroll down to xpinstall.signatures.required and toggle from "On" to "Off".)

Add-on signing in Firefox

See https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/add-on-signing-in-firef... for Add-on signing in Firefox. Override add-on signing (advanced users): You can override this setting by changing the xpinstall.signatures.required preference to false in the Firefox Configuration Editor (about:config page). Support is not available for any changes made with the Configuration Editor so please do this at your own risk.

Latest is 4.2.0.0. addons.mozilla.org has 4.1.0.1

Grammatically Correct As Stated

I didn't say Mozilla had the most recent version, just one that was signed, which is the version you gave.
