Post your GPS names

I thought that it would be cool to see what names people have given their GPS units and maybe why you named it such.

I named mine Sophia. I did this because there is a dumb movie called "How to lose a guy in 10 days" and in it the girl names the guys penis "Princess Sophia" and I thought that by giving it that name you emasculate this man...well the traditional Joke about man is that he always feel emasculated about asking for directions and well I ask the GPS unit for directions all the time. You get the idea =)

Please share your stories and names.

If you really need a name,

If you really need a name, why not just call it whatever voice you listen too, like Karen, Jill, Jack, or whatever. I have finally settled on Karen. Her voice fits my ears much better than the others.

She's Minnie (garMIN of course.) I've only had her about a week and she hasn't cussed me out yet, so we seem to be getting along well. (She does complain "recalculating" a lot!)

Sharon

Is it my imagination or is

Is it my imagination or is there a slight sarcastic tone in that "recalculating" comment? My wife notices it too and likes to say "recalculating" after she does only with a bit more sarcasm to make us both laugh. I think we have our voice set on Karen but have no name other than "She" for the unit. I think there was an H. Rider Haggard novel in which the character was known as Ayesha, "She Who Must be Obeyed." I think that would be too hard to say but would be appropriate. My mom and dad call there C340 Jill after the voice. My mom, in her 80s, always says, "How does she know all of that?"

Hey Sharon, I love Minnie. That is a great name for your GPS.

Names

All the names listed sound english. Hasn't anyone noticed that the female voice on the nuvi 350 clearly does not speak english. Her emphasis is on the wrong syllable for a lot of common words like numbers. One street name that was Oak Dr. was given as Oak Doctor. Is she from India?

I just named mine "Damnit"

I just named mine "Damnit" for everytime I'm not listening to it and miss a turn...

Gina

I, at first, was going to call my c530 Garmina. My wife did not care for that name so she christened her Gina. Since I had problems and had to return my original, my wife has named my new c530 Regina.

Silly

I call my nuvi360 Silly... It seems to get confused when I get off of the road (parking lots and such) and it comes up with some really creative / convoluted ways to get me back on track. So it seems that Silly is appropriate.

My Lady Friend's 11 year old Grandson named my unit Lila about 2 weeks after I got it a year ago ! Ironically, I called it TomTom. I share my GPS with my family and for some reason, it seems easier for them to pronounce TomTom rather than Garmin or Nuvi.

When it doesn't work the way they want it to, they like to call it Dumb Dumb. =)

Geeps

We call ours Geeps (for GPS). We've called all of ours this - it's easier than coming up with a new name each time we get a new model.

GPS Names

We've had Garmin GPS since they first came out, being boaters on Lake Erie. None of them spoke and we never had a name for them, though, till we got an iQue 3600. Only one voice, and she became Carmen the Garmin.
Gave that one to our daughter in college, and got a C550 earlier this month. Didn't want another Carmen, so we went male, and since my wife loves listening to clients from the U.K. with our travel biz, we went with the U.K. male and named him Garrett the Garmin.

Gracie

My first GPS unit was a Garmin Street Pilot III that squawked whenever it became "confused" by me making a a move that it didn't recognise or like.

This lead to her being named, respectfully, "Gracie" after the late, and darling, Gracie Allen of Burns and Allen fame.

Since then I've moved up to a Garmin 2720 and although the female voices are much more softer sounding, she's still "Gracie" to me.

Cecily

My brother called his Garmin "Gwendolyn." He and I both use the British voice, so I call mine Cecily.

Gwendolyn and Cecily are the Pigeon Sisters of The Odd Couple fame, but very few people remember that Neil Simon borrowed those names from the two young women in "The Importance of Being Ernest" by Oscar Wilde.

My wife says that to me asainfire, not my daughter.

Our GPS is Jill

Not very original, but we settled on Jill's voice and eventually the name stuck. I was going to have it speak German to me (which, considering I don't understand German, would have defeated the purpose until I either learned it, or gave up and changed the language) in which case 'she' would most likely have been Brunhilde.
