Battery (for nuvi 885)

I'm having trouble finding a battery for my garmin 885. Anyone know of a place I could order one?

Good luck

It's a one-off battery used in the 885 and 855 units only. Batteries Plus used to carry them, but seeing as how the unit is now at least 7 years old, I doubt they would stock them any longer. Oh, Rat Shack used to list a replacement also, but that was several years ago as well.

Look Here

Not in stock.

Located under add to cart "Availability: Currently Unavailable" Looks like the battery may be a little hard to locate. Amazon also shows not in stock.

Difficult to Find

Batteries for the 8xx series have been difficult to find for a couple of years now.

You may already know this but the original Garmin part# for the battery is 361-00033-00. Be aware there are aftermarket units out there that are advertised as 8xx compatible but do not work!

I found an interesting discussion on 855 battery issues on another forum:

Jim from Sharcnet had a lot to say on the matter. You might try contacting him for a possible replacement:

Good luck!

Unusual baterry?

Is this battery design especially for this model only? There are no other units using this particular battery?

Removable

It's a removable battery and as far as I can remember, that's a feature only offered by the nuvi 295W and nuviphone in addition to the 8x5 series. And of course, the 8x5 battery was different from the 295W/phone battery. Back when I bought a discontinued 295W, I tried to find a spare battery for it and even then, I found I needed to search for a nuviphone battery because a search for the 295W battery didn't offer much.

Whew, I just checked out ebay. I didn't find any batteries but I found a battery case cover being offered for $17.50. I suppose one possibility would be to search ebay for a really cheap 855 or 885, even a broken as-is one. This may get a battery but it would be an old possibly worn out one.

Try eBay

I would look on eBay for a battery for the 885. Found one there some time ago and works A1.

I don't think so

I was going to congratulate you, but then I looked at my nuvi 855 battery rolleyes

My nuvi 855 battery is a 361-00033-00 battery and it has four terminals on the side, not the shown three terminals on the end. I'm not sure what that battery is but it won't work in a nuvi 8x5 device. I did try entering garmin 361-000033-00 in the site's search bar for a nuvi 855 battery, but nothing came up. Bummer, if my 855's battery ever fails, I wonder if a replacement can be found.

The battery in your link also is not the battery for a nuviphone or nuvi 295W since these require a 361-00039-00 battery. I wonder what the battery shown is intended to be used in. It may be for a Garmin Mobile 10 but for the life of me, I don't know what that is either redface

ALL else fails

Might try Garmin. they may have one laying around that they want to do away with or maybe fix it.. who knows.. smile

Nice catch Craig. I sold my 855 back in 2013 and have no visual reference to go on. It is possible the picture used by Cut Rate Batteries is a generic one and not of the actual battery. Unfortunately, there is no way to be sure without ordering one.

Here are some remote possibilities:

Battery Tex .com shows a different picture with 4 contacts on the side of the battery.

https://www.batterytex.com/product/detail/garmin/361-00033-0...

They say to call for availability and pricing.

A seller on eBid in the UK claims to have 25 in stock but only ships to UK addresses.

http://www.ebid.net/uk/for-sale/garmin-nuvi-850-855-860-860t...

Perhaps he could be talked into shipping to the US if you contact him.

Mercateo in the UK has them in stock but only ships to European countries:

http://www.mercateo.co.uk/p/850IE-8208/AccuPower_battery_sui...

Accu Power lists the product on their site but you need a login to order:

There has been a lot of confusion about replacement 855 batteries. I ordered an aftermarket product for my 855 in 2010 and had to return it because it didn’t work. I eventually spent the extra $$ and bought an OEM battery from Garmin. See an earlier post:

http://forums.gpsreview.net/discussion/23590/nuvi-855-afterm...

Battery Education .net has a page with compatible part numbers for many Garmin batteries:

http://www.batteryeducation.com/2011/02/garmin-gps-battery-r...

They list 010-10987-03 and 361-00033-01 as being compatible with 361-00033-00

To add to the confusion, searching for these part numbers yields products with several different pictures.

No easy solution to this one I'm afraid.

Interesting

Interesting. Batterytex may be the only North American source but the "call for availability and pricing" makes me think they have none as other nuvi batteries on the site have a listed price.

I'm thinking more and more than the best option today is to buy the cheapest nuvi 8x5 offered on ebay, even dead, broken ones. Just be sure to confirm that a battery is included. I looked at my nuvi 855 battery and it's listed as being manufactured in 2008. It may be really tough to find a battery less than five years old.

It may well be time to retire the OP's old 885 and buy a new nuvi, or if a mp3 is why it's being kept, buying a used older nuvi that still has the ability to play mp3s while also having replacement batteries easily available. This has been quite the interesting thread.

.

I have a couple of spare batteries that Garmin sent me. I store them outside of the unit and they're virtually brand new. This thread is reminding me however to do a power-cycle or two on them. I haven't used my 855 in years. It's a great unit but it also has it's share of drawbacks. I'm glad I didn't spend much on it as I never really used it much.

Run on power adapter without battery.

As far as I can tell, the nuvi 8xx batteries are no longer available and most likely never will be. Fortunately these models work fine with the battery removed when operated through a power adapter. It makes updating a little weird, but is doable if you are careful.

For example, an 855 with a bad digitizer screen sold on eBay earlier this week for $15.50. Since this thread was active, I bid on it but was outbid at the last minute.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/151907559566?ssPageName=STRK:MEDWX:I...

There are others out there:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Garmin-Nuvi-855-Voice-Activated-GPS-...

There is also an 885, which uses the same battery, on auction for $38 + $9 shipping.:

However, as Craig points out, there is no guarantee that these units have good batteries.
