Downloaded Maps Missing LA & JV

So I'm aware that when you download maps or buy the microSD card that the Lane Assist and Junction Views are missing. According to Garmin they say:

Please note, these full-version maps do not contain premium content such as Lane Assist and junction view. These features only are available on the preloaded maps within your device or through a specific update for the mapping region of your device.

I understand if it comes preloaded in the unit, then you will have LA and JV but what does "a specific update for the mapping region of your device" mean? Is there some other method to re-acquiring the "premium" content if it's not preloaded?

Garmin: GPSIII / StreetPilot / StreetPilot Color Map / StreetPilot III / StreetPilot 2610 / GPSMAP 60CSx / Nuvi 770 / Nuvi 765T / Nuvi 3490LMT / Drivesmart 55 / GPSMAP 66st * Pioneer: AVIC-80 / N3 / X950BH / W8600NEX

I think what they are saying

I think what they are saying is, yes the premium content (LA etc) is on the device (or it's not - no download of maps will add it) and if you do have the premium content only certain map downloads will make use of it.

A thought

Some nuvi models are offered with an option for the provided map; e.g., either all of North America or just US/Canada or just Lower 48 states, etc. It may be that Garmin is saying that you will only receive the LA and JV for the map area that came with the nuvi from the factory when performing map updates. That's my guess although I agree that it's not that clear in the way they worded it.

we have been aware

We have been aware for many years Garmin has both generic and specialized maps they sell for their units. If you upgrade a unit with the software to use both JV and LA, then the map you receive has that content. The generic maps, as Garmin has no way to determine what is and isn't on the target unit will not have this data included.

The best example of this tailoring can be seen regarding Junction View. There are essentially 3 files, the large full screen, the abridged full screen and the half screen. Garmin controls which one you receive from the model number of your unit and itss capabilities.

Poor Description From Garmin

Thanks for the info. I guess Garmin could have worded it a bit better because I found it to be a bit confusing. It made it seem that the maps on the card "could" have these features but I guess not.
