Garmin CIty Navigator NA 2016.10 has been released.

It has been reported over on the long running 2016.10 speculation/joke thread that City Navigator 2016.10 North America has been released and is available for download via Garmin Express or Garmin MapUpdater. It is time to close off discussion in that old thread and move the discussion of download experiences and map issues to this new thread.

I am downloading now on a clone of my 3597LMTHD using Express 4.1.4.0. I will report back when the update completes (or fails).

Finally...

Here goes nothing....

updated

Updated (3597, 2495 and old classic 260) with Map Updater. So far so good.

Was prompted to update the firmware (from 5.00 to 5.10) for 3597. Updated the firmware without incidence.

Map updater.

@pillowcase ... Did Map Updater delete the gmapdem.img file on your 3597 as it has done with previous updates?

Done ...

... downloaded and installed in less than an hour on my 2555.

I am going to hold off on the 2455 for my motorcycle. I have the large JCV file on that one, and I don't wish to lose that just yet.

Having said that, SHAME ON GARMIN for not making the large JCV file available to those who wish to use it.

new map

download was quick and easy but I am now noticing some routing issues. map shows right turn but voice says left. Also, I was headed to the Rockawys and it routed by the long way, rather than the way I am usually routed. I am hoping it was just that one time but I will keep you posted.

Goes for me too

Me too, I have the large JCV on my 1390T and haven't updated since they quit giving out the large JCV file. So I'm 2 updates behind right now.

DELETED ATTRACTION

After I downloaded the new map, I noticed that an attraction in Louisiana was deleted. I know that it is still there because I visited the last time I was in La. just two weeks ago.

Odd Dates

I found some odd dates when looking at my Manage Maps at Garmin.
When I went into "Manage Maps", then scrolled down to "Installed Maps". I saw all the maps I have installed on my 2460 There were 16 entries.

Below were the last 3 (Codes & Unlock Codes not shown)
City Navigator North America NT 2015.30 - Map+HT+PA+P, July 14
Code: XXXXXXXX
Unlock Code: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Date Unlocked: November 12, 2014

City Navigator North America NT 2015.40 - Map+HT+PA+P, Mar 15
Code: XXXXXXXX
Unlock Code: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Date Unlocked: March 24, 2015

City Navigator North America NT 2016.10-Map+HT+PA+P,April15
Code: XXXXXXXX
Unlock Code: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Date Unlocked: July 29, 2015

I don't remember the releas date to the servers on the top two. What confuses me is that the date next to the current map does not match the date it was installed on the server since that date was May 16. July 29 is correct since that was the day it was released and I downloaded. Just wondering what that April 15 date is.

You can download and use the Large JCV file

I just want to remind you that there is a way to download and use the large JCV file, much thanks to some kind and supportive POI-factory members (check the post "2016.10 Large Junction View")!

updated 1450 with large JCV

Updated with the large JCV file everything went great in less than 1 hour using Express and info from the "2016 large Junction View" post.

Thanks to rookie8155 for providing the large file.

Stuck on Activating Maps

Installing the 2016-10 map on my Nuvi 255W, and it is on a screen that says "Step 2 of 2: Updating Maps". Under that there is a bar graph that says "Activating Maps... Estimated Time Remaining: 16 minutes.

It has been stuck there for an hour or more. Any ideas on what is causing this? Thanks.

Installed

I finally got around to updating both of my old 760 units. No issues with the download or install on either one.

I'm late to the party, downloading now. Thanks for the head's up. With updates coming so infrequently, I just don't check regularly.

Just updated

Went OK. Didn't know through express because it said I needed at least a 3GB card (mine is 4GB but wouldn't work for some reason). No issue updating through mapupdater though.

Garmin CIty Navigator NA 2016.10 has been released.

I know i have an older garmin but my nüvi 5000 still working like a champ no problems with the new maps on unit and maps on my SD card

Just a guess but maybe the 255 does not have enough room to install the complete map. You may just have to use a part of it.
Maybe more knowledgeable people can chime in.

Thanks Melaqueman. I have an 8GB SD card with lots of room. The built in memory stopped being enough years ago.

I tried it a couple more times and on the 3rd try it installed successfully. It kept stalling on activating the maps, but finally worked. I have 2016.10 installed now.

Updating through Garmin Express now

hope it works

C340

Going to try and put this update on my ancient C340. It has handled all of the prior updates like a champ. I don't use it much anymore but like to keep it current just in case.

Garmin CIty Navigator NA 2016.10 has been released

Got it thanks

No Joy

For some reason the update is not being recognized by my C340 but when I swap the SD card to my 255 it works fine. Anyone have any thoughts on why the C340 will not recognize the new update?

Easy

I have to say this is one of the easiest (dare I say cleanest) installs I've done in recent years on the 4 GPS's I maintain for family. Each one took no longer than 30-45 minutes to download and install. Basically start download, walk away, come back and it's ready. This is the way it should be.

For some reason the 2555 took the most time.

The StreetPilot C300 series can only accept 2GB SD cards:

https://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?caseId={18331ce0-4af6-11e3-f27b-000000000000}

What size card are you using?

What is the filesize of the map file on the SD card? What geographic areas are included; e.g., all of North America, the Lower 49 states, etc?

How did you create the map on the SD card? Did you use the regular map update process (Garmin Express or GarminMapUpdater), did you use MapInstall, or did you use the clone process? If the City Navigator map update was installed to the card for the nuvi 255, the map is tied to the nuvi 255 and will be locked out if switched to any other GPS device.

I believe your c340 will only accept a 2GB SD card, and this means the map update can not be all of North America but must be a smaller segment of the full map. And of course, any Garmin GPS will need to have a paid lifetime City Navigator NA map update linked to it if the map is to be used, either purchased as a LM or LMT model, or a separate lifetime map update. Does your c340 have lifetime maps?

You may want to also review this https://goo.gl/uajwMI . Plus pay close attention the note "StreetPilot c300 and i-Series devices do not support the SDHC (High Capacity) cards. All other devices support SDHC (High Capacity) cards and will support up to class 10 cards" include on the link CraigW posted.
