And here's what the release notes say...

Garmin began rolling out Garmin Express v4.0.21.0 for the PC today. If you would like to upgrade to the latest version, Check for Updates to Express on the Settings page within the Express application. This version includes the following changes:

• Fixed an issue where step data could be lost after a device software update.
• Fixed an issue where updating Garmin Express was not respecting the users’ custom install location.
• Fixed an issue where map or software updates would show up as available after the update was complete.
• Fixed an issue preventing users from updating courses on some golf devices.
• Added the ability to select a custom install location when re-installing maps.

Thanks

Thanks for the info. Just installed Win 7 x64 no problems.

I just installed the update

I just installed the update and the program gets locked while trying to find updates. It doesn't let me do anything. It just tries to find updates forever. I had no problems with 4.20.0. Anyone else have problems with this update?

Thanks for the info.

Just updated with no problems on Windows 8 x64.

4.21.0

I forgot to say that I am using Windows 8.1. I will try to uninstall the update and reinstall it to see if that fixes the problem.

Mac Soon?

Hopefully an update for Mac soon. Running 4.20.0 and it crashes every time I start the application. "An unexpected error has occurred and Garmin Express must close. If you continue to experience this, contact Garmin customer support.

No Thanks

So far I have successfully avoided GE. I actually did install it very briefly quite a while ago but almost immediately removed it and haven't felt the need to install it again. As long as the map updater is still around it works quite well for me.

Version 4.20.0 is the problem. Just Google Garmin Express to find the link to download from the Garmin site.

I just uninstalled 4.21.0

I just uninstalled 4.21.0 and re-installed the version on Garmin's website and now Garmin Express 4.21.0 now works right. It now showed me an update for the time zone map to correct v16.0 which I had previously installed and I installed the newer version.

sounds good!

Thanks for getting back to us!

Still can not get myself to load GE while I keep hearing about problems.

map update

I wonder if there will be less problems with maps update. So far I was unable to successfully update maps with GE on my Nuvi 770, and I don't know how long MapUpdater will work.

Good news?

The good news from Garmin is that GarminMapUpdater is now the only way to update maps from a Windows XP computer:

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/44466

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/44415

so it appears that Garmin will keep GarminMapUpdater available and hopefully if a newer version is needed, they will update the program. I've also heard stories that Garmin Tech Support also has directed folks to use GMU when GE fails to update maps on some devices. Until we hear otherwise from Garmin, GMU should remain available for map updates.

Note that the warning in the above faq link is for devices with a shaded relief (DEM) map. Your nuvi 770 isn't one of them so you can safely use the Map Updater program for map updates without losing any files. Then, too, with all the updates for Garmin Express, you may find that Garmin Express will also update your nuvi 770 maps in the future if you want to try it again.

Garmin Express 4.21.0 Is Out

update

Hi all
I have been trying to update express on my Mac to 4.0.21 and when I try form the About Garmin Express check for updates the wheel just keeps turning.
So I went to the Garmin site and did a download for the Mac version and now I have Garmin 4.0.18 ( and I think I had version 4.0.20 when I started this)
I then went to Finder and in and in Applications I deleated Garmin Express App.
I did a fresh download and I still end up with 4.0.18
I am new to Mac's so what am I doing wrong?
Thanks for your help......Cy smile

Thanks for info

Two steps

I guess I was behind. I ran the updater, 4.0.19 installed. I ran it again, 4.0.21 installed. In each case, install of updates was reasonably fast and hassle free.

W7 PC.

Had to delete previous version

And do a clean install before it would work.
