Nuvi 2589 (answering phone calls)

I just bought a Nuvi 2589. Works great so far. I have one question. When the phone rings, I can't answer the phone with my voice. I have to "touch" the screen(accept). Shouldn't I be able to answer without touching the screen?

Does not look that way

My reading of the manual seems to imply that you must touch the device

.

Thinking this is old now as most cars have hand free built in for answering the phone.

Bluetooth

Reading the Bluetooth info at http://goo.gl/NqmYjE under safety it says "Hands-free calling lets you keep both hands on the wheel and eyes on the road, while your mobile phone uses your GPS to let you dial, answer and talk". You just have to have the right phone and Garmin GPS. Use the search feature on the link above to check for right phone. The Nuvi 2589 itself should be good to go.

I have a 2598 and I have

I have a 2598 and I have always touched the screen to answer a call, I'll have to look again to see if it is possible to use my voice. Never occurred to me to use my voice, because I look at the screen and see the answer/ignore buttons and instinctively just reach out and press them.

Auto Answer?

On my phone, there are several "answer" options: one of them is "auto answer". When set to this option, the phone rings twice and then picks up and switches to speaker phone. This worked great on my Ford Edge when the phone was paired to SYNC. It did not switch to speaker phone, but it did connect and use the cars speakers and SYNC to handle the call totally hands-free. All of the phones functions, including the set volume, phone book, text, etc paired and worked perfectly. Unfortunately, it (auto answer) does not work with my Nuvi but it may with yours. With all of the FW updates released for my 2595 (20?) Garmin never improved this feature.

Poor UI Design

Same with my Nuvi 2598. Have to hit the Answer or Ignore button when the call comes in. Poor UI design since you can make/dial a call hands free.

I looked at my manual and played with the unit, have to physically press the buttons, no voice answering. Reminded me of several instances where I wanted to answer but hit ignore by accident because the buttons are so close to each other. Poor design at that, should have gave the buttons some distance apart.
