Garmin express won't load

I had Express 4.0.11? it worked fine ,then 14 came out and it would not load,64 bit system then it now says installer missing or on another disc? It also says it cannot delete older version. I have all the rest of Garmin programs but Express just won'install? I sent Garmin an email but i think that was a waste of time. Does anyone have any ideas.

You say

You say the "it" says you cannot delete older version" but ave you attempted to uninstall GE from Windows Control Panel - Uninstall Programs?

Install garmin express

I assume you are running Windows 7 x64?

First go to Windows Update and download all critical updates. Optional updates are not needed.

Rather than updating from within the old version of Garmin Express, go directly to this link to download it -

http://software.garmin.com/en-US/express.html

If it will not download, make sure you have Garmin Communicator -

http://software.garmin.com/en-US/gcp.html

Note - the Chrome browser no longer supports Garmin Communicator. Run Internet Explorer and go to Communicator at the above link.

Ensure the user profile you are using has administrative rights.

If Garmin Express will still not install, disable any antivirus or firewall and try again.

I feel your pain

For me, the recent versions of GE have worked well and the internal Check for Updates finds and installs updates. But in the past, I've experienced the same problem: can't update to a new version and can't uninstall the old using Windows Control Panel.

What I think I did to resolve it was to not try to update the existing version with the Check for Update button, but rather install it fresh from:

http://software.garmin.com/en-US/express.html

If your problem continues with future versions of GE as it did for me a while ago, my fix was to 1) always uninstall the current version from my computer, then 2) use the above link to install the new version.

Good luck. I won't guarantee it'll work for you but it's worth a try. I was never able to figure out why my past updates failed as yours are now doing but for the past several updates, things are working for me, even using the Check for Updates button to install updates.

Microsoft FixIt Utility

The problem of not being able to uninistall or reinstall Garmin Express on Windows 7 64 bit has been discussed over on the Garmin Software forum. User (moderator) sussamb gave this advice in one of his posts over there:

sussamb wrote:

Try using the Microsoft FixIt Utility to completely uninstall Garmin Express. This software is third-party and not created by Garmin. The software is licensed and created by Microsoft.

1.Go to the web page: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/program_install_and_uninst...
2.Click the Run now button
3.Click Run in Internet Explorer or download then open MicrosoftFixit.ProgramInstallUninstall.RNP.Run.exe1
4.Click Accept in the license agreement
5.Follow the provided instructions to select and uninstall the particular application

When uninstalling Garmin Express select:
•Garmin Express
•Garmin Express Tray
•Elevated Installer
•Garmin Update Services (skip if not present)
•ANT Drivers Installer x64

This program will need to be run again for each item on the list to be uninstalled.

Then try to install Garmin Express. If you do not have that installer already, it can be downloaded from http://download.garmin.com/omt/express/B/GarminExpressInstaller.exe

Work around

the problem with the new express is that it cannot use the old .EXE file to boot. If you remove the version you have loaded, then search for the Garmin Express .EXE file that boots it, manually remove the .EXE file, and then reload the new version everything will work properly.

Best option.

Your best option is to call (not email) Garmin Customer Support. They can remotely connect to your computer and can often quickly resolve this type of problem.

If you have a Microsoft OS you have Internet Explorer.

Internet explorer is built in to all OS's by Microsoft. It can not be removed.
