North Orange county/LA - Los Alamitos/Cerritos redlight cameras

I have some questions on the redlight cameras in Los Alamitos (right and left turns only?) and Cerritos:
Is it true that there are only three red light cameras in Los Alamitos?
Two, located at the intersection of Katella Avenue and Los Alamitos Street, are for left turns, and one at the intersection of Katella Avenue and Bloomfield Street is for right turns.
For the katella-Bloomfield intersection , is it no right on red or we need to stop for certain time before making the right turn?
Dont these cameras catch violators going straight?
Is it possible to completely avoid the 2 left and 1 right camera intersections by taking parallel perpendicular roads?
Does the above logic hold true for Cerritos or for any intersection thats photo enforced?
Thanks
red light cameras
I don't know about Orange County, but in my area of Nassau County New York, about 80% of summonses are for "rolling through" a right-on-red. Only 20% are for going straight through a red light.
Previously on POI Factory there was a discussion about how many seconds to stop before turning on red. No state law could be found with such a requirement. For example, NY law requires "complete cessation of motion" without mentioning the time. The full stop must be before the stop line.

I would avoid them
I don't know anything specific about the intersections you are talking about, but in general, I try to avoid the intersections that have ticketing cameras. Usually, I just avoid the town, but if I need to go to one of these places, I try to scout out the camera locations and plan my route accordingly. Occasionally, the GPS notification of where the cameras are has alerted me in time for me to change my route for a camera I didn't know about ahead of time.

Thanks. The stop line is the first dark white line right.
Agree

I do the same thing as you. I'm relocating to this new place and there are 2 redlight camera cities I cant avoid.
So doing some research on google maps before actually moving there.

Thanks. The stop line is the first dark white line right.
Yes. If there is no stop line, then the crosswalk.

dealing with red light cameras

Please don't decide where to relocate based on red light cameras! They can be dealt with, as I am doing. Once you learn where they are, you know what to do.
What if you move to a town with no cameras, and they approve them afterward?
Fight back by reporting camera locations at the link on the upper right column on this page, "report an enforcement camera."

I wish there was an option in the GPS - Avoid Redlight camera intersections just like how they have Avoid Toll Roads.
there is
I wish there was an option in the GPS - Avoid Redlight camera intersections just like how they have Avoid Toll Roads.
Custom Avoidances can be used to avoid red light camera locations, but I don't recommend it. It is available on the newest Garmin units.
Garmin Support says:
The nuvi 55, 56, 57, 58, 65, 66, 67, 68, 800, 805, 5000, 2400, 2405, 2407, 2408, 2505, 2507, 2508, 2509, 2609, 2707, 2708, 2709, 3400, 3500, 3507, and 3508 series devices, the dezl series, Camper/RV 760, zumo 350, 390 and 590 devices allow you to set up custom avoidances so that you can avoid specific areas and lengths of road.

Why do you not recommend this?
Do you know how to set up/enable this option?
Not Recommended
My area has 200 red light cameras. In my opinion, red light cameras are placed at locations that are difficult to avoid. Another route can always be found using Custom Avoidances, but at what cost? You may be driving far out of your way, and that may lead to other red light cameras.
In order to set up the avoidance, you first have to know where the camera is. If you overlook one, that is the one that will get you. New cameras are being installed and others are being removed all the time. The best plan is to simply install the POI Factory red light camera file for alerts and forget about Custom Avoidances.
To set up Custom Avoidances:
An intersection cannot be an avoidance. A road can be avoided, so you would define a short section of road which includes that intersection. Alternately, a road may have several cameras at successive intersections, so you would avoid that entire road.
Different units may have different menus. From a typical manual for Garmin nuvis with this feature:
1) Select Settings/Navigation/Custom Avoidances
2) Select Add Avoid Road
3) On the map, select the starting point on the road and select Next
4) On the map, select the ending point on the road and select Next
5) Select Done
The avoidances set up this way will only work while you are navigating, not just driving.

Thanks again
Thanks for the detailed explanation.
Fortunately there are 3 roads with 2 cameras each that I want to avoid.
Will be moving to the new city next weekend and set it the way you mentioned.
good luck!
Good luck in your new city!
