Voice alerts (trying to get them to work)

I have a Nuvi 2757 and I have been trying for a while to get the voice alerts to work. Here is what I have done so far. I installed the Sox.exe file in the proper directory. All the files have the same name. I have deleted all my added poi file and reinstalled several time and still no voice just a tone. I'm sure I am missing something simple put I just can't find out what it is. Also is there anyway to test if its working without taking a trip. Thanks for any help.

.WAV?

Are you using .WAV files, not .MP3?

Double check the location of the sox.exe and make sure you don't have a double extension problem. As per Alandb stated you need wav file not mp3.Follows instructions per http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25730

The Sox file is in the

The Sox file is in the poiloader directory and all the sound files are wav files and I did use the instructions listed on this site. And of course all names are the same with no double extensions. I really did follow the instructions very carefully I thought. The only area im not clear about is, I converted the mp3 files to wav. Is it possible that I need special setting during the conversion.

Different conversions of wav has been reported to work. I suggest when using the conversion save file as PCM, 44.100 kHZ., 16 bit, Mono. I know that works . Make sure you download the sox.exe from the link I posted. You may want to make your own wav file just to see if that works. http://www2.research.att.com/~ttsweb/tts/demo.php

Well give that a try. That's

I'll give that a try. That's the only thing I can think of that might be the problem. Is there a way to test without a road trip? Also I did download the Sox file off this site.

Test at home

Also see https://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?... to simulate your route at home.

I'll try the simulation but

I'll try the simulation but it would be faster to take a ride. That thing is so slow. Thanks for the help. I will do a new conversion of my mp3 files and I will also try the site to make my own sound file. Again thanks for the help.

alert

The simulation is a little slow. The trick is to put the start point close to the Poi you want to check the alert for. Good luck and let us know how it comes out.

Testing

As charlesd45 just mentioned, the main trick when initially testing out sound or icons or alerts on your device is to do something close to home.

Let's agree that the POI for which you are wanting "voice alerts" is nowhere near your house and you do not want to drive all over town just to test your most recent load of POIs.

However, we can "pretend" that whatever you are interested in is within a mile or so of your house and build a "test" file that you can use in testing a "voice" alert.

The easiest way to do this, I have found is with Extra POI Editor (EPE). There is a tutorial found at
http://www.poi-factory.com/node/36195
that will help you do this.

Try it out.

Thanks guys, I was able to

Thanks guys, I was able to create and test voice alert sounds by using the At&t site. That seemed to be the easiest method. Again thanks to everyone for there help.

Glad you got it working.

Sounds good. Now you can enjoy one of the best non-supported feature for your Garmin unit.

Note.Using the ATT site http://www2.research.att.com/~ttsweb/tts/demo.php .It is the fastest way to eliminate if the original wav is the problem.
