Garmin Announces Its Most Advanced Truck Navigators Yet

I was just reading about the features of the Garmin Dēzl 570 and Dēzl 770. They look like they are very well designed for truck drivers. In fact, I suspect that there might be some automobile drivers that will give the Garmin Dēzl 570 a try. The Up Ahead feature looks interesting. In fact, the Service History Log looks interesting, too. Note that the tabs are customizable. Could that mean a tweak to our Nuvis would allo them to do that, too? Automobiles, as well as trucks should keep track of tire mileage, tire changes, tire pressure, oil changes, and more. The ability to record dates, mileage and performed maintenance would be handy to me, even though I don't drive truck for a living. I even like the ability to see what the nearest mile marker is. Generally, that is something that only concerns me if I am on an interstate trunk highway. I wonder if the Garmin Dezl 570 will be easy to find or if it will only be available from a limited number of retailers?

DEZL 570

I think the Dezl models will be generally available at brick and morter stores and online retailers. TheGPSStore.com, where many of us bought our nuvi's from, already lists it for sale.

The Garmin trucking device that is limited to industry specific distributors is the Fleet series. I think the Dezl series is a consumer product available to the general public.

Garmin Announces Its Most Advanced Truck Navigators Yet

Thank you for the reply. I have been enjoying my new Nuvi 3597 so much, that I have been considering another GPS for our RAM pickup truck. I might just spring for a Garmin Dēzl 570 rather than a Nuvi 3597. I will have to take some time to compare these two units feature for feature to see what, if anything, the 3597 has that the 570 doesn't have.

For RVers.

This might be interesting for RVers too.

That beautiful glass screen on the 3597 could be the first thing you miss.

I'm not sure what the beautiful glass screen on the 3597 is all about, but the two new Nuvis both have glass screens.

Glass maybe but not the same

Glass maybe but not the same screen:

Dezl - Display resolution, WxH 800 x 480 pixels
Display type multi-touch, capacitive; WVGA color TFT with white backlight

3597 - Display resolution, WxH 800 x 480 pixels
Display type multi-touch, glass, dual-orientation, WVGA color TFT with white backlight

You really can't explain how bright and clear the 3597 screen is compared to other Nuvi models. Hopefully the new Dezl models will be just as good and the difference in the above discriptions are just 2 ways of saying the same thing, other than the dual orientation part,of course, which appears to be only offered on the 3597.

You may not have but there are a lot of others that do need a good GPS with truck/RV capabilities.

Another advantage of having a power cradle is that it eliminates the possibility of damage to the USB port on the Nuvi from stress on the cable pulling the port away from the main board. It's far cheaper to replace the cradle than having the GPS repaired or replaced.

The screens are exactly the same hardware, to the best of my knowledge.

Just an FYI, capacitive is synonymous with glass and resistive screens are plastic; more info here: http://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/simpleCase.htm?caseId={5bdd84b0-6a44-11e1-e2e6-000000000000}&kbName=garmin)

We all wish the verbiage used for device specs was the same throughout different series and models, but unfortunately that is a bit optimistic.

How does this compare to the

How does this compare to the dezl 760? Does the 770 have more memory, faster chip? So this doesn't do 3d buildings? How well is the glass screen? Scratch resistant, maybe gorrila glass?

Not

NothingOfficial wrote:

Not so sure about that. Here is a quote concerning the screen on the 3597 which came from the largest Garmin distributor in Canada last September. He had just returned from Garmin's US Head Office:

"The displays where given an end of life build over a year ago."

I have been considering

the truck version of the nuvi for years because we tow an RV. The reviews of the earlier models made me think it wasn't yet worth the high price. I'll keep an eye on the new ones.
