Hello all! first post here and of course it's all about questions:) I love my via 1605 but alas the unit is having some serious hardware issues. I purchased a garmin 2689lmt and I need the favorites file out of the 1605 to install on my garmin. Believe it or not, there are still addresses in areas that tomtom nor garmin can find. Is there anyway to do this? When you plug the 1605 in it never appears under win7 explorer as a drive so you can't access it that way. I don't know if the garmin appears aa a drive or not. Any help on this or is it possible?
Thanks!

It's pretty easy to transfer your favorites to the new device if you follow these procedures:
"To transfer saved places/favorites (there are other ways but I find this one the easiest) copy the current.gpx file from your old unit to your computer. Rename the file to temp.gpx. Copy temp.gpx file from the your computer to your new Nuvi, placing it in the GPX folder. When you restart the new Nuvi all your favorites will be showing and you can/should delete the temp.gpx file from the device."
That being said if you can get either Nuvi to appear in Windows when you plug the device(s) in, using the USB cable, then you have a totally different problem which will need to be solved before you can easily transfer your favorites.

I don't think Tom-Tom uses GPX or the current file.

the 1605 has a favorites.ov2 file, you will need to find a way of converting it, EPE does not recognize it as a legitimate OV2 file.
Sorry
Sorry, didn't see it was a TomTom issue.

As a partial solution
You can get the favorites file off of your TomTom and onto your computer using the Community Content tool within the MyDrive program that interfaces your TomTom with your computer.
However, I don't know how to convert the favorites.ov2 file into a format that can be used on the Garmin. There is probably a conversion program available, but I do not know its name. At this point, all I can suggest is to search on the Internet for such a utility.

thanks for all of the replies. i can't get the tomtom to be recognized as a drive. I used tomtom's program to download the file, however, it wants to transfer it directly to another tomtom. I have searched my hard drive and cannot find the "favorites" or "ov2" file anywhere.

do you sync it from? where are your POI's that you loaded to it. I keep mine in a folder called tomtom, that is where they should be.

Ok, got it done. I finally figured out how to get the tomtom .ov2 file from the community content portion of the tomtom my drive connect program. converted it to a .csv file and used garmins poi loader program to install it to my garmin. I now have a poi file on my garmain with all of the favorites I had saved on my tomtom.
thanks every body for the replies.
Great job
Well done and welcome aboard.

Drive Recognition
thanks for all of the replies. i can't get the tomtom to be recognized as a drive. I used tomtom's program to download the file, however, it wants to transfer it directly to another tomtom.
TomTom changed the format of its file system with the series of devices to which the 1605 belongs, so your GPS will not be recognized as a drive. That's why you need to use the MyDrive program to copy files to and from the GPS. In the case of the favorites file, that is handled by the "Community Content" portion of the MyDrive program.
