Why Garmin POI Files do not work?

My wife has the Cyclops file USCanadaCyclopsSample.GPI on her Garmin 50LM GPS (she says it came with it) and it works - notifies us when approaching cameras. I downloaded the Garmin POI Loader (without the USCanadaCyclopsSample.gpi) for my GPS and it did not allow me to get notifications as hers does. Looks like Cyclops is the way to go???

What did you download?

Welcome to The Factory.

You say you downloaded Garmin's POI Loader program which I assume you installed to your computer. Then what did you do?

You will now need to download the redlights and speed camera files from here at The Factory, put them in a computer folder, then run POI Loader with your GPS attached and have POI Loader install files from the folder on your computer that contains the POI files. Since you don't have a windmill yet, you will need to buy a subscription here to access the redlight and speed camera files:

From what you wrote, I don't see that you've done any of this yet except for downloading Garmin's POI Loader software. You should also mention which nuvi you're working with, although in this case, the procedure should be the same for all three of your nuvi models.

Check out the Learning tab and faqs here for more info.

Another thing to check on each nuvi is whether Alerts have been enabled. It's possible they're now disabled.

One last thought. Your wife's Cyclops trial file will work on all three of your devices and the file can simply be copied from the one to the other two devices. Note that the trial Cyclops file is not updated.

I do suggest that you make a backup on your computer of all files on your nuvis before you start tinkering with file copying, etc.

You can get alerts for POI'S using key words or voice alerts using sox.exe and wav files. See http://www.poi-factory.com/node/1278 and http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25730 . Also see http://www.poi-factory.com/node/6507 . If you are just starting out on custom pois see http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25721 .
