Garmin 2014 Nuvi Advanced Series.

Garmin has finally announced some 2014 models other than the Essentials Series: http://garmin.blogs.com/pr/2014/09/new-garmin-n%C3%BCvi-adva....

The article says these are available immediately, but so far the specific models are not listed on their online store ... will probably show up soon.

Voice Control is Great

Well, until you've told your GPS where you want to go simply by speaking an address, you haven't yet lived. Just say "Voice Command" and "New Route", and tell it the address. It has a very accurate recognition engine. And the 7" screen on the 2797LMT is a thing of beauty.

I agree completely and going the next step and putting in a custom name in place of "Voice Command" makes it even better. I say "Hey Veronica" and she comes back asking me what I want to do. I find two words and a multi-syllable name helps with false starts.

Anybody know if the newbies

Anybody know if the newbies GPS's have more memory than the standard 2Gb or are they all going to micro SD's when more storage is needed?

most of the new ones

Most of the "new" models have 8GB of storage.

2789 not Authorized for Sale by FCC

I saw on Garmin's store under the 2789 description the following:

"This device has not been authorized as required by the rules of the Federal Communications Commission. This device is not, and may not be, offered for sale or lease, or sold or leased, until authorization is obtained."

Anybody know anything about it? Was this originally a foreign model that they want to start selling in the US?

Nuvi 2597 / Nuvi 2595 / Nuvi 680 / Nuvi 650 "Good judgment comes from experience and experience comes from bad judgment."

standard.language.

That is pretty standard language that Garmin puts on new models before they have received FCC approval and have them in stock for shipment. I have seen it on other models, and eventually the message will change to something like "expected delivery 4th qtr." or "usually ships in 6 weeks".
