ok, I made copy, deleted the D0322240A.IMG file, opened Viago.... North America is gone, went back to the folder, and have a D0322240.GMA file. Is it safe to remove this file also?

D0322240A.IMG file was the one to keep.

If you reread the instructions above actually the 2.10 GB D2338160A.IMG file was the one to delete and the 1.9 GB D0322240A.IMG file was the one to keep.

I don't want USA and Canada, just lower 49 this is what is in your post>>>>.D2338160A.IMG is 2.10 GB North America map.
D0322240A.IMG is 1.88 GB US and Canada. US and Canada looks like what I deleted

Maps

North America map includes US, Canada, Mexico and several islands and US territories. Lower 49 map is a different file from the two being discussed and is listed separately on the Maps to Go download manager.

This was his post in the other thread in addition to the instructions from him I posted earlier that solved the need for a wifi connection that you were having.

Looking at my download manager

I have in the Maps to Go:
North America, size 2.1 GB checked
Additional Files 358.4 MB checked

I did not download any of the others and my Nexus 7 works great with no wifi.

Viago looses map association.

This has been talked about over on the Garmin software forum and it happened to me. I had installed Viago and the North America map on my Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0. It was working great.

Then I had a problem with the multi-window function on the Galaxy after installing the KitKat upgrade. Samsung support said I needed to do a backup/system reset to correct the problem. That worked fine and reinstalled all the apps including Viago. But after that, the Viago map was no longer associated with the app, so Viago would only work with a wi-fi connection. The NA map was still checked and therefor I couldn't redownload it. So I downloaded the US & Canada map, and then Viago would work offline again. But now it shows both maps checked. I have plenty of room on my SD card, so I have not tried deleting one of the map files.

Like I said, this has been discussed over on the Garmin forum, and there are apparently several conditions that cause Viago to lose association with the installed map and no documented way to fix the problem. You can probably find the thread with a Google search.

Lower 48?

Odd for Garmin to exclude Maine from its maps.
Oh, for the days when we used to get all 48 contiguous states.

I have run into the same issue with my Samsung galaxy Tab 3 10"

Seems like Garmin, probably based on the "in-app" purchase, doesn't restore the add ons.

So far testing has been....interesting.

Would not start

Don't know what happened, but the Viago app would not start on my S4, just kept cycling. I had to delete it and reinstall. I then had to download everything again. It is working fine once again.

I'll have to try this app.

3 month update

After using the Viago app now for nearly three months everything is still working fine with no glitches that I have found. I guess that is why they have not had to release any further updates since the one to fix the contacts problem. grin

Viago For Android Updates And Tweaks

Has anybody compared Garmin StreetPilot Onboard to Viago?

Initially, I had most of the

Initially, I had most of the issues that other people are relating but finally it is working properly and I leave it alone, in fear that I will cause an issue and have to re download maps and or other add-ons. Hope Garmin reads these issues and updates the application, soon, to fix these reported issues.

Future

Are there any plans in the future to allow for custom POI files? This is the first I've heard of the program, and the lack of customizability keeps me from trying it.

Viago

FWIW ...
A user on the Garmin software forums reported this:

Just to close this off, I emailed Garmin tech support and their response is there is no way to get Favourites into Viago. And no plans to allow it in future.

And a different user on the gpsreview forum reported this:

Info from Garmin Support:

Map updates will be released for Viago about twice per year. Once all features of Viago have been released and finalized, we will pursue quarterly updates.

When updates are released, a notice will appear when the application is loaded, and the download can be started from the Download Manager.

Thanks!

Thanks for digging that bit of info up. With all the fancy high tech solutions we have now, sometimes simpler things like my Nuvi make more sense. Love things like the real time traffic and reports about objects on the road, cops running radar etc as found in Waze/Google Maps, but you still can't import a database of custom POI's into either of those.

Just a side note

Still no way to import custom POIs.

I just did my workaround. Hand imputed each waypoint for an upcoming trip.

I will be using my Nuvi 2450 but I like to have a back up just incase something happens to the Nuvi.

It took a while. You find the waypoint, select save, then you have to type the name in. It does not take the name from the waypoint you found. What a pain and a lot of extra time to do such a simple thing. I also put some waypoints in that were not in the unit. I would find them in Google Earth, then bring up Viago at the same part of the map. Then I would click on the road in several places to find the address of my waypoint, then I would save it and give it the correct name.....

Garmin is working on the Viago, hope they get it easier to work with. I love the program when everything is in, but not having a way to import custome waypoints is a pain.....

Twice a year? Wonder why not on the same schedule as the regular map updates?

I am surprised they are offering map updates at all when I only paid $10 for the map.

I agree. I too consider it a good deal. Garmin faces a stiff competition from Google and the like that offer maps and navigation apps with updates for free.

Lifetime map updates

alandb wrote:

I was very surprised when I originally found that the map purchase was lifetime updates. The entire cost including the app, lifetime maps and the spoken streets with real directions cost less than $22 when I got them.

Viago 1.1.0 update

What's New
Version 1.1.0 (2379):

- Foursquare POI search added
- New In-App product Urban Guidance : Navigate via public transport
- Fix for issues issues reported through Google Play

Undocumented change is the Bonus Package which allows you to customize the map and vehicle symbol. Free registration is required. It adds 10 map themes, and vehicles may be downloaded from the Garmin Garage.

The Urban Guidance feature costs $4.99. Strange that Toronto is not listed in the supported transit systems, but Montreal and Vancouver are. Documentation can be downloaded at http://static.garmincdn.com/shared/emea/custom/viago/UrbanGu...

EDIT: A second install to Nexus 7 tablet with JellyBean 4.4.4 failed with "Couldn't install on USB storage or SD card"

Viago 1.1.0 update and added new features

Thanks for the heads up on both the update and the added features.

Took a little poking around to find the bonus package update but once installed and registered it was easy to download the additional vehicles. Changed the vehicle to a new selection and worked great.

After reboot everything is working including the Foursquare search feature which is the new feature on the just released advanced series units.

Updates worked fine on my Samsung Note 8.0

I saw that the app only cost 2 bucks, but have plenty of other GPS apps to play with and didn't rush to try this one because I expected the "in-app purchases" to significantly add to that cost. I've been reading a little about it but still don't feel that I know enough. Can anyone post a list of the prices of the in-app purchases and what the options are? Or a link to same? One more thing, when you select save you have to type in the name of the POI. I would love the option to just press save and it would save the POI with the name already there. Extra work to type something already there.

Samantha and Paired Bluetooth

I found that Viago works fine with Bluetooth on your smartphone turned on but not paired. When I get into my car and my smartphone automatically paired with my vehicle, Samantha no longer spoke. I found this out the hard way. I was getting so frustrated when I was setting up a route in my house prior to traveling and it would work great and Samantha would say "Please drive the highlighted route!". But as soon as I would get in my vehicle no more Samantha. After several days of trying I finally tried with the Bluetooth off, and Walla!! Samantha Spoke Again........

PS. I drive a 2014 Chrysler T&C with a 430N audio system.

You might think that the above affirmation is a little bit overboard, but it's not, it is a good product and performs well. Just as good or better than all my other Garmins.

Had a chance to test the Viago 1.1.0 update yesterday

My youngest daughter was going to drive up to the Ikea store near Phoenix from where we live in Tucson and she invited me to ride along.

I thought that it would be a good opportunity to test out the latest Viago 1.1.0 update. It worked great and I was impressed at how smooth and fast that everything functions and the spoken streets and real directions were very helpful.

I am really pleased with the maps showing not only the streets leading to the shopping area but also all the drives and even the parking rows and dividers within the parking lots. It pretty much takes you directly to the front of the store within the shopping complex.

I have the app on my Samsung Note 8.0 and with using it on battery yesterday for the round trip of around 3 to 3 1/2 hours it still had 70% of the battery life left when we got back to Tucson. It appears that on my tablet I would get around 9 to 10 hours of navigation use on a single battery charge.
