Memory card, has garmin changed something?

... a number of issues, and yours and his may not be related. In your case maybe the original card wasn't quite seated correctly? Or it had gone bad somehow. Did GE actually say it 'couldn't recognise the card' or was it some other message?

It's also possible the 8Gb card had some hidden files that meant Express couldn't use it. You could at least see if the card now works by formatting it (must be FAT32) and then copying the folders/files from the 16Gb card to the 8Gb, then inserting that into your nuvi to see if it works.

Yeah, I would agree, format the old card and try again. If the format fails then you have your answer.

I updated my 3597 to 2017.20 also last week using Garmin Express and an installed 8GB SD card. I keep all my custom POI on the card. All went according to plan as it has in the past. I also agree with the others. If as you said the update didn't recognize the card, most likely something went amiss with it. A format should reveal if anything is amiss with the card. So far my maps install to the base device.

TXRVer brings out an important point - that the North America map, at least, is not too big to fit on the base nuvi 3597. The same with mine, which is 90% full and I am not given a choice by Garmin Express to use the existing SD card.

I do not know what maps Sjöberg has on his 3597, but it is possible all maps will fit on the base device.

From Sjöberg's account information it would appear he is in Sweden and one could assume he is updating the 3597 with City Navigator Europe maps. If that is the case then there is very little chance that the map update would fit on the internal storage of the 3597 as the maps of Europe are almost twice the size of the North America maps.

Yes, i have the map for Europe. From the beginning, 2-3 years ago, there was enough space on the internal memory for it and some small files with pois. But i have always have an memorycard in place, i have a gpi with the size of 170Mb and there was not enough space for both my file and the map in the internal.

I think i can rule out issues with my cable and computer as the same configuration accepted the new card.

The format of the old card is not done yet but will be done.
