gpx

HELP! I have a Navi2Coach bike computer. Everytime I want to download a gpx route I created in training peaks or bikeroutetoaster it is a new adventure in frustration.

I create routes, and save them as gpx, as that is the format advised by the user's manual. I have not entered any new routes in some months. I tried a new route tonight and keep getting an "unsupported" file type message. WHAT GIVES?

I am not technical. I do not work with computers. Why is this gpx file saving as adobe, but then adobe refuses to open it? How do I fix this? I paid over $600 for this device and cannot get any support for it. Please help!

Tell us how you created the .gpx file.

Your manual says

Quote:

Connect your navi2coach to your computer. Your windows PC will show you a new removable drive. On a MAC a new device “navi2coach” will be recognized. Copy the file into the folder „Import“. Now the route is saved on your navi2coach and ready to get selected.

Did you do this?

The next step on the device after it has been safely disconnected from the computer seems to be

Quote:

Select Navigation >> Routes in the main menu and choose your desired route from the displayed list

Also...

What software are you using to create routes?

Oh My!

How embarrassing. I read it but did not understand it. http://bikeroutetoaster.com/ is a course creation application primarily aimed at Garmin Edge/Forerunner owners although other users without a GPS may also find it useful for planning rides.

I guess I got addled in the brain when I saw the comment about "Adobe" (which I would associate normally with PDFs, etc

I guess I will have to join the biker site and see how GPS files are exported.

Adobe

The file is not being saved as adobe. It is just that somehow .gpx files have been associated with Adobe Reader on your computer.

That just means that when you double click on the file, the system will try to open it using Adobe Reader. But since Adobe Reader cannot read that type file you get an error message. (The file should not have been associated with Adobe Reader because it cannot read that type of file.)

However, the incorrect association does not affect how other software will treat the file when it is opened within the software. It also would not affect the way your device reads the file.

@Evert

Maybe the OP will tell us what the names of the files are (including the extensions)

Guilty, as charged.

I too read, but did not comprehend.....

I found that one does not have to join the site to use bikeroutetoaster.
I created and saved a .gpx file by doing the following:

Click on Link in 4.2.1 of the navi2coach manual: http://bikeroutetoaster.com/
Click on Editor (on top bar)
Create course (I created a course from Idaho Falls to Dillon)
Click on Export
Click on GPX tab
Enter “IdahoFalls to Dillon” in Course Name text box.
Click on Download button.
Choose “Save as” on the “Do you want to open or save” choice box.
Choose location on hard drive (I had created a folder named “navi2coach” in Documents folder)
Click on Save button.

Note: To me the choices in the Insert new points section are counter intuitive so it was necessary to click on the ? at the right side of the Insert bar and read the instructions.

I do not have a navi2coach so could not test the gpx file on the device but BaseCamp did open the file OK.

Good for Evert

I had things to do yesterday so did not get back to this.

As usual, Evert has provided this thread with the pertinent elements of the solution.

Now we need to know from the OP where "Adobe" got into the picture.

Thanks, Evert.
