Navigon 2100 MAXX

Does anyone have any input on the new Navigon 2100Maxx. Costco has it on sale for $199.99. Seems loaded with features just trying to figure out if they are worth it and I should buy one. Any thoughts from the crew here would be great.

Thanks.

I have a 2100, and just love it. I have shelved my other GPSr's for it. I have FreshMaps, Lifetime Traffic, and Zagat Ratings and Reviews and use POI-Warner to add Custom POI's to it in mine.
Since your on a Garmin based forum, Navigon will be slammed, just take it with a grain of salt and don't listen to them, and buy it, like you said it is feature loaded.

2100 max

they had the 5100 for the same price recently. Since this is new the price is high. The 2100 has been selling for $100-120 at staples.

this is the one that has

this is the one that has replaced the 2100. Do you have any thoughts on the navigon gps as a whole?

5100 Navigon

If you can get the 5100 for the same price, get it. Navigon is a great product made by Navteq the map maker.

Quite refreshing to see this type of advice, to say the least!

I would suggest the same, after all, Costco has excellent return policies and you can bring it back in case that you are not satisfied after trying it.

POI-Warner is a third party POI management software, that expands POI-related functionality for various GPS systems from a number of manufacturers:

I haven't tried it out yet, but I think some degree of involvement on your part is needed in order to convert/build custom POI files.

You can use POI-Factory files with POI-Warner

I use these POI files downloaded from poi-factory. If you go to this link http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=97250&... you will see the workings of POI-Warner explained.

Navigon 2100 MAXX graphics? Too good to be true?

I also just saw this on the Costco bulletin and it's the graphics that caught my eye.

I've been using a Nuvi 680 for about a year and love it, but have always been resigned to the "Pong-era" graphics.

Are the Navigon graphics as good as they look in the screen shots? Look:

Thanks!

Navigon 2100 MAXX graphics

All the navigons have great graphics for interstates. They show the interchange in almost photo quality with clear path to follow, much better than any other GPS I have seen.

One of the problems with my Garmin is with interstate interchanges. It just shows the car icon and doesn't always clearly show the exits vs the other lanes until it is too late.

I have 2 navigon 2100s for my kids and it definitely beats the Garmin for graphics.

Yes they are!

Navigon 2100 Max -- Confused about POI downloads for it...

I got the Navigon 2100Max from Costco the other day and used it on a trip from Baltimore to Harrisburg, PA. It was great, and, yes, the graphics are terrific. Some of the protocols take a little getting used to because they're different from what I'm used to-- an older Magellan.

What's confusing me, however, is how to download some POI's to it-- specifically campgrounds. I know that such POI files exist (Good Sam, etc.) but all the downloading instructions seem geared for Garmin or Magellan. And in the Navigon PDF instruction manual-- which runs to about 100 pages-- there is not a single word about how to download third party POI's-- or ANY POI's for that matter. Nor are there any settings or options on the device itself that indicate the ability to download POI's to it. If anyone can point me in the right direction of finding information on this, I'd really appreciate it...

Can't make everyone happy, go figure you don't like it in less that 2 hours, Hmmmmm Okay however, Navigon is now the number four retailer in the country and moving quickly into number three.

2100 Max

I broke down and bought one two days ago and took it back this morning. Exchanged it for a Garmin 255W.

The first Navigon I picked up didn't recognize the SD card and had to return it. The overall features are great... everything is just too small and compact. Plus I had to put my readers on to really see or do anything with the unit.

I think, overall, it is a good unit. They just have a ways to go before they play with the big boys.

Now my 255W... love it!! Just like my 750.

Cheers,
Ronnie

Bringing This Thread Back From the Dead...

Anyone still using a Navigon 2100 Maxx? Just found out from my wife that hers has been a brick for the past few years. Apparently the last time she tried to update the maps it didn't go very well. She just bothered to tell me a few days ago. Thought I'd try to revive it if possible, but it looks like the company is no longer supporting their devices and has translated into a service provider for cell phone navigation apps.
