I've updated but I'm over 100 miles from a location that offers traffic so I haven't tested this. In fact, I think my rather new 3597 has never had its Traffic tested.

[Update: After "installation," I even powered down and rebooted the 3597. Connected to my cigarette lighter power/traffic cable, a GTM60 as DorkusNimrod also reports, I see under my Device Settings: GTM: 2.10. As Dorkus relates below with his nuvi, it appears that this traffic update did not install on my 3597 and oddly, it shows firmware 2.10, not the new 2.30 or the apparent earlier 2.00. I can see two possibilities and since Garmin has done both in the past, I don't know now what's going on. Possibility 1): The firmware update is defective and doesn't install on several nuvi models although it should; or 2) the update, although offered to US devices, is not intended for some/all of the devices that show the update available. I used WebUpdater although I expect those finding this update with Garmin Express may see the same. I see a discussion on another forum that doesn't bode well for this:

http://www.gpspower.net/garmin-receivers-firmwares/328000-fi...

Note that this thread shows two slightly different updates:

1) Firmware Update for GTMxx Digital Radio Type S software version 2.30 as of June 23, 2014

2)Firmware Update for Digital Radio Type S software version 2.30 as of June 23, 2014]

On the bright side for many of us here neutral is that this link indicates that the non-North American users with a GTM70 find the update bricking their devices while here in North America with the GTM60, the update simply doesn't install.

Same here CraigW.

I will be interested to see if my 3597 gets a signal next time I go to Minneapolis. Last time I was there, my old 755T picked up a traffic signal, but the 3597 didn't.

This update did not apply to my GTM60/3490LMT. For those that may be looking for an update to correct the odd digital traffic performance (frequent "searching for service" message), it looks like it's a no-show. BTW, I used WebUpdater to check for the update...numerous "traffic" related updates were found (like "traffic text" and "traffic database") but nothing specifically for the GTM60. Maybe using GarminExpress" will find it (as it seems to find somewhat different updates, especially voices) depending on the unit but I don't feel like installing it to find out.

If someone has luck finding the update mentioned using a GTM60/3490LMT combination by using GE, posting back will be appreciated.

WebUpdater found no new firmware for my GTM60 when my 3597 is connected. [Edit: I was mistaken. WebUpdater did indicate that it found firmware update for GTMxx digital radio type S.]

I proceeded, using the Cloned 3597 on SD with the method by Alandb. WebUpdater again indicated that there is new firmware for type-S digital traffic receiver GTMxx.

Downloaded it. The file downloaded is 006B154600.gcd (1,052,844 bytes). Trying to copy the file to my 3597 and found I already have an file with the same name and size in the .system\RemoteSW directory. Upon further checking a backup and found that I have this file in the .system\RemoteSW directory since day one.

No update was performed by the 3597 when the GTM60 is connected as expected. The 3597 reported that it has firmware version 2.1 for the GTM60 as Craig indicted.

It also instructive to read the thread on other forum that Craig referenced to.

CraigW - Report on Traffic

nuvi 3597 - software version 4.30

GTM-60 Traffic Receiver - GTM 2.10

Navteq Traffic - (FM)

Navteq Traffic - Digital Traffic HD

I also have the optional Total Traffic Network lifetime subscription from ClearChannel. This is FM traffic and not HD, which is not mentioned on their website.

The traffic provider settings are always set on "auto," but they can be set for the single provider you want. As far as I can tell, no traffic has ever been received from Navteq HD. Traffic has been received on Navteq (FM) and Total Traffic Network.

My home area is a suburb 20 miles east of New York City. The strongest signal comes from Total Traffic Network. Navteq (FM) works fine inside NYC. With the settings on "auto" the provider is constantly Total Traffic Network.

Today we were westbound on I-84 southwest of Waterbury, Connecticut, which is a small city 100 miles northeast of NYC. I believed we were outside traffic coverage. We received a voice alert of traffic on our route about 60 miles away, from Total Traffic Network. By the time we got there at a lane closure the traffic had subsided.

The 3597 is not fully updated. I run Garmin Express and wait a long time after updates become available.

Traffic fully updated

Today I fully updated Garmin Express, and nuvi firmware and all updates including GTMxx for Digital Radio, and the map. The nuvi was rebooted.

nuvi 3597 - software version 4.40

GTM-60 Traffic Receiver - GTM 2.10

HERE Traffic - (FM)

HERE Traffic - Digital Traffic HD

Total Traffic Network - (FM)

The traffic receiver firmware is still 2.10. Notice that Navteq has disappeared and been replaced by HERE Traffic.

At home, 20 miles east of New York City, the HERE Traffic HD had no signal. The HERE (FM) and Total Traffic Network (FM) both had a signal.
