Can't remove custom POIs from Garmin 2557

I have used POI Loader to add some custom POIs to my Garmin 2557LMT. When updated CSV files were available I deleted the GPI files in the POI folder on the device, and used POI loader to create and add the new GPI files to the device. Later I noticed I had multiple POI categories with the same name on the unit. I now have some POIs on the 2557 that I cannot remove by any means. What's going on here? Thanks for any advice and help.

See http://www.poi-factory.com/node/1273 . If you do have a extra gpi file you can use your search option to find it.

One explanation

One explanation is that the old POI files still reside in the same place on your PC. When you run POI Loader for the new POI files, it is also loading the old files. The solution is to find and delete from the PC the old POI files you no longer want, then run POI Loader again.

the other option

is to tell POI Loader to remove all POI files from the device.

I don't keep GPI files on my Mac, only CSV files. And I keep only the new, updated CVS files.

Since you have a mac.Run Poi Loader again and delete the custom pois. Before you dis-connect the gps from the computer delete the contents of your trash folder on the computer.Dis-connect and re-boot gps.

For info .When you run Poi Loader to install pois the csv and gpx files are converted to one big gpi file on your gps. With gps connected to computer. You will find the gpi file in the gpi folder. In my case it is My Pois.gpi

I tried the other option

Yes, I ran POI Loader to remove all of the custom POIs on my device and it removed all of the GPI files in the POI folder. After ejecting and re-starting the 2557, some POIs are still on the device. I was on the phone with a Garmin tech for over an hour and nobody could figure out why this was happening. The tech did in fact seem to know what he was doing. I could not see a single GPI file in the Garmin device when mounted on my Mac.

Can't find any stray GPI files

While the GPS is connected to my Mac I have searched for .gpi files and didn't find any. Thanks for the link to the FAC. When I save a backup, it goes into the Express folder. How would I save the backup to the GPS itself?

Custom pois

See http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25721 for installation steps.

POI Loader will put them back

This works fine, until you run POI Loader again and it finds the old POI files in the same place on the PC or in Trash on the Mac and loads them again.

How the .gpi files come back

was 2557 really rebooted?

After running POI Loader to remove all POIs from the nuvi, it must be rebooted to finally remove the POIs. The nuvi may not have been properly rebooted:

nuvi 2557 Manual

Turning Off the Device

1) Hold the power key until a prompt appears on the screen. The prompt appears after five seconds. If you release the power key before the prompt appears, the device enters sleep mode.

2) Select Off.

Bingo, this did it

Thanks so much to everyone for trying to help me out. dobs108's tip about turning the GPS off solved my problem.

I've learned a lot from the suggestions in this thread. Thanks again to everyone.

Glad to help

We are glad it was something simple! It was charlesd45 who mentioned the nuvi had to be rebooted.
