Crap Garmin

It may not be a problem with your Garmin but with your computer. Why not try to update your unit on your friends computer.

Either that or try Garmin's Mapupdater. I don't have the link handy but a quick search on this forum should provide you with that info.

One last thing with Express is to make sure you are using the latest version.

When you look at the Map Info for the installed map on your 3490LMT does it show as City Navigator NT or City Navigator NTU? Is it the same on your mate's 3490LMT?

Garmin has released the City Navigator Europe NTU 2015.10, but not City Navigator Europe NT 2015.10. They have announced that the NT version will only be updated twice per year, so users requiring that version will need to wait for 2015.20.

This doesn't apply to me, but what is the difference between the NT ver. and the NTU version? Again, just wondering.

NTU is the NT Unicode version for EU. The CN NTU version can display cyrillic and some other languages, characters and signs (like Greek, Polish, Latvian etc) that the non-NTU version is incapable of displaying.

I agree never had a problem with my unit

I stick with the map updater. It seems to negate a multitude of problems.

But my mates was updated on my PC by me also I have the latest Express and web-updater My Garmin has NTU when I reconnect my mates 3490LMT Express said you have the latest software and latest map 2015.10 NTU but when I connect my 3490LMT all express said was you have the latest software 8.20 nothing more

In Express (before you plug in your GPS), go to devices and remove the 3490, close Express then re-open it then plug in your GPS.

Express may have gotten confused with the 2 units being the exact same model (i.e. it thinks the map has already been updated.)

If all else fails, try mapupdater (not web updater).

Sorry it was map-updater and i have tried deleting device then redoing it i even tried doing it through base camp.

I would suggest uninstalling Express and then re-install.

It sure looks like you have confused Express with the two similar devices. Anyway, it cannot hurt to uninstall and reinstall.

Are you sure it was Garmin Map Updater and not Express you were using? Your description sounds more like Express. Garmin Map Updater is downloaded at this link: GarminMapUpdater for PC

You might be surprised what clearing all cookies on the computer can sometimes accomplish. It's easy to do and worth a shot.

I always run my garmin express in admin mode in windows. I used to encounter a lot of problems but after doing this it seems to go a lot more smoothly. I say this now as I'm hoping my update completes and doesn't hang! haha

Thanks once again for all the suggestions but I have been there and done everything that has been suggested still no reply from garmin either.

This does seem like an odd anomaly. Have you compared the two 3490LMT's on my.garmin.com? What differences do you see in the two devices on the myMaps and myProducts tabs?
