It would be nice if when new RLC and Speed cameras move in, NY and Long Island resident move out.

Nanny?

Had you said something like "Police" state or something in the same vein, I would understand.

I think that Automated Traffic Enforcement is a good idea for several reasons.
It frees police officers for dealing with major crimes.
It catches people who have broken the law.
It produces revenue from people who deserve to be penalized rather than from the general citizenry.
It causes people to pay attention to the laws (even if it is only in the vicinity of ATE) and reduces the number of violations.

To call it a "nanny state" implies that you think that enforcing reasonable laws is a problem. I can not believe that could be true.

however

my use of "nannyism" is in respect to the passing of laws for no apparent purpose other than stating the patently obvious behavior is wrong.

@Box Car, I apologize if I seemed to be questioning your characterization. I thought it was quite appropriate in the thread http://www.poi-factory.com/node/42828.

I cite the Wikipedia entry "Nanny state is a term of British origin that conveys a view that a government or its policies are overprotective or interfering unduly with personal choice.[1] The term "nanny state" likens government to the role that a nanny has in child rearing" to expand on your usage.

I was responding to the way perpster had made his comments on cameras - perhaps he had just read that other thread before posting above.
