Does anyone have any issue with 2595 USB charging port

I have a 2595LMT and lately I have been having issue with the connectivity with USB charging port. I thought the port was dirty but it turned out that the soldered pins on the port separated from the board and there is no way you can fix it.

Common point of failure

UNfortunately, the USB port is a common point of failure on Garmin devices. You might want to check with sharcnet and see if the 2595 is one of the models they repair.

Different Unit, Same Problem

After losing a 1490 to USB port failure, I started using a short 6" USB pigtail cable on my other units as a strain relief.

I leave the cable connected and tape it to the back of the unit or zip tie it to the G ball mount. It's a lot cheaper to replace the pigtail than the unit.

That is a good idea. In

That is a good idea.

In some other older Garmin units, in addtion of using USB to charge the GPS, you can can also charge unit through the GPS holder. I wish they bring that capability back.

THE LAST MAP UPDATE

That I did, I notice that the charge on my GPS showed a half battery. I went ahead and downloaded the map and when it was finish, The battery showed a full charge. Is that normal.

Normal Charge

The charge would be normal. Anytime the unit is plugged into a USB port it will charge. The same goes for when it is plugged in via the car charger.

When plugged in to the computer

On the 3597, the mini USB connector in the car already has a right angle. That is not where the problem happens. The mini USB connector on the cable supplied by Garmin to connect to the computer is straight, so to see the screen while updating, the unit is tilted and resting on the connector on its back.

Your idea about the 6" adapter cable is a good one!

Micro and Mini USB

My 2460 has both a Mini and Micro USB ports and both charge the unit. The micro is a data/charge cable and the Mini is the power cable that plugs into the vehicle.

Using the micro I cannot use the unit because it is a charging/data cable, but with the mini I can use the unit while plugged into my PC, but have no data transfer available.

I purchased a mini USB cable so that I could use my unit while in the house, plugged into my PC and charging.
