Back From The Dead

My Nuvi 765T... after the last map update, it wouldn't boot past loading maps and stalling out... I installed the latest Garmin Express on my MacBook Pro... hooked up the 765T... and it proceeded to install 2015.10 maps... and my Nuvi is back from the dead... I'm not at all sure what happened or why... just quite pleased that it's working again.

That's good news.

That's good news Keith. Nice to hear a positive story about Garmin Express after all the negatives. Glad you have your 765T back in service.

Spoke too soon...

Now the bleeping thing won't boot again... computers won't even see it - just says "Loading Maps"... Navigon on my iPhone and/or iPad it is from now on...

USB Cable ???

I have had components in the past that had difficulty being recognized from time to time. The issue came down to an faulty USB cable. I have had some work for years and others for days. If you have already tried different cables, then perhaps another issue. Another possible issue is the port itself. I mention this because it is a very common problem with Kindles. A different device, but the same connection.

I purchase inexpensive cables on eBay and most last about a year. OEM seem to last a bit longer.

Hope this helps.

EDIT: Might check out this link. Though a different model, could be the same issue.

Have tried multiple USB cables, on two different computers... Multiple ports on each computer... USB connector on the device worked fine to load the maps, and it worked...for a short while before going stupid again...

Oh Dear

Take the battery out, try to turn it on.

Then try to get it connected to your computer and reinstall the system software ASAP before it goes stupid.

Might also be a good idea to reinstall the 2015.1 mapping.

When this stuff happens to me, I have learned to just wipe it out and start from scratch.

May I also recommend the JaVaWa device manager, and use it to scan and remove corrupt files. It has helped me a few times.

System Software

Is the system software installed via WebUpdater?

If you have a backup, did it not restore?

Computers do not even see the device as mass storage... 2 different computers... Windows & Mac... nothing can happen until the computer can see the device... pulling battery does nothing...

Time for a call

With my limited experience calling Garmin (twice), I found them to be very helpful. Kind of the opposite with email, not to mention that it is much slower. If it were me, I would not hesitate at this point to make a call, and shouldn't have to worry about the unit being out of warranty.

getting a new memory card for it.

I searched Garmin Support and at the end of the steps to a solution was:

Any News?

It is probably not a cable, or the computer. The GPS probably has some corrupt software that is causing the problems. The Montana is infamous for this behavior, as if it is normal. Try taking the battery out, press and hold the On button for like 15 seconds, then let the device sit for a couple hours. Then put the battery in and try to boot. Do not try to boot when the device is connected to a computer, I find that causes all sorts of boot issues. Keep in mind, I do not have the save device you do, but these procedures have helped me, and become normal operating procedures.

Also, do not have BaseCamp open on the computer you are using. They try to talk and sometimes get into an argument, and the GPS plays silent treatment.

Once you get the thing alive and connected to a computer, do a complete reload of all software, firmware, etc. And run JaVaWa to clear corrupt files.

I'm done with it...

I'll stick with Navigon on my iPad and iPhone...

Not the only one

My 750 bombed out about a year ago, no touch function.

After trying a number of different things it came back to life.

So there is life after death after all.

Cheers and enjoy the day.
