Basecamp problems

I thought that I should start a fresh topic. I have had the same problems as others in downloading new map update into computer. As of today, I DL again and I didn't think it was successful but 2015.10 does show in uninstall programs list. It seems at that same time my computer decided to do a reboot.??
My problem now is Basecamp will not open 'MSVCR90.dll' is missing from computer. I have DL a new Basecamp but not installed. There were a few things in Basecamp that is not on my Nuvi. Does this mean that the new install will over ride old BC? Any way I can retrieve subject file and install in old BC? Not the end of the world but a loss still. Do any others back up BC? Will not reinstall BC until I hear from the experts here.

Basecamp failure

Well, it seems that now that the City Navigator map update is pretty much fixed, Garmin has decided to break Basecamp.

The Garmin company forum admits to problems with the new Basecamp. It suggests that uninstalling Basecamp, then reinstalling it, will fix the missing dll error--but I've tried on two PCs and the fix doesn't work for me although many are reporting success with the reinstalled Basecamp.

I will stick out my neck and suggest that you have successfully updated your map on your computer but for now it can't be seen because the latest Basecamp is broken. Since I still have Mapsource on my PCs, I've uninstalled Basecamp and will install it again in future weeks.

Uninstall BaseCamp. Delete

Uninstall BaseCamp.
Delete all program folders labeled BaseCamp.
Then install the new BaseCamp.

Worked for me.

Is there ANY software release from Garmin that works first time out? If my tech guys were this sloppy I would have to fire them all. They can't possibly be testing the installation software.

I never get lost, but I do explore new territory every now and then.

Basecamp installation

It seems as though I always have difficulty with updated installations of Basecamp. The downloaded file would not install over the older version, so I attempted an uninstall first using the Windows uninstall utility. The existing version would not uninstall. So, I next used Revo Uninstaller and that did take it out.

Still, the downloaded file would not install. So, my next step was to extract the installation file using WINRAR. Installation using one of the extracted files, BCMAIN.msi, did the trick.

I had attempted to use BCMAIN.msi prior to uninstalling the prior version and that wouldn't work either.

Thanks, Solved the base camp problem for me!

This method that was posted earlier in this thread was easy and worked for me using the same 4.3.1 download that didn't work initially causing the start failure.
