Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel Motorcade Caught...

I caught a report on Channel 7, about Mayor Emanuel's motorcade running red lights, and speeding in school zones.

I thought Politician's in

I thought Politician's in Chicago were beyond the law. So what's the problem? He's just exercising his voter-given perks.

not surprised

I'm less surprised by the mayor's violations than I am by the fact that this was deemed newsworthy in Chicago.

Windy City

At least he said he will stop speeding and going through red lights. smile

nothing new under the sun

If you read fine print you would notice that law says:

"Doesn't apply to politicians and government employees unless they are competition or it will get too much negative publicity".

I hope now you know why they can do whatever they want.

probably want to get past school zones as fast as possible

Those guys know the area well and you would probably want to get past school zones as fast as possible too if you watched the special series "Chicagoland" on the cable news channel that I watched.

The areas around schools are plagued with gun violence and murders so much so that they had to designate safe corridors that are manned by the police and fire department to try to get kids back and forth to school alive. It has made it very tough for the police and fire to respond to emergency calls during those hours. I cannot think of any other city that has had to create special protected routes with guards manning them in order to get their kids home and to school alive.

Chicago has the strictest gun laws in the Country but has the most gun violence, I guess the laws are so strict that the only people left in Chicago that have guns now are the gang members.

The way Illinois works

As a lifelong Illinois resident, I feel qualified to speak to this issue.

In Illinois, there are lots of laws and taxes for all residents ... except those elected to public office.

Those elected to public office are required to be more crooked than the politicians they replaced.

The goal is to see how many laws you can break as a politician ... how much money you can grab ... and how many relatives and friends you can get no-work, high-pay public jobs.

The end goal, as a politician, especially a governor... is to see if you can get a longer prison term than any prior Illinois governors.

It's a matter of pride to be a crooked, law breaking elected official in the state of Illinois.

Don't worry

You'll never see "evidence" of it happening again.
The evidence will simply disappear.

Not just Chicago

This happens all over the country, not just Chicago. Why is anyone surprised?

Nothing will change

Sadly, this story will do nothing to change anything. The city will keep on ripping off motorists with the cameras and city officials will continue to be exempt from it.

Agree 100%...

When is the last time you saw a motorcade for a elected offical stop for anything or go the speed limit? This isn't news, it's business as usual.

Disagree

When you have someone pushing for speed cameras near parks and schools, saying repeatedly, "It's for the safety of our children." And then blatantly breaking the same exact laws, it is news. It might not be important to those that don't live in the area, or it might be the butt of jokes.

When a report discloses the extent of the infractions that the Mayor's motorcade has incurred, it does leave those of us that care to question the fairness of the situation.

I posted the link because I thought ABC did a fantastic job, very thoroughly covering every aspect of the situation. From the rolling rights on red, to willfully blowing red lights, to speeding through schools zones. Having a notice of seizure on the vehicles, to not having to pay a dime in fines. The average Chicago citizen, or even those passing through Chicago, do not get the same consideration.

If you think this is how it is, and it should just be accepted, that's fine. There are those of us that think this is not right, and the Mayor should be held to the same standards as the rest of us. Especially, if he is installing school speed cameras in over half of the city, and ticketing people even if no school children are present.

The motorcade officers usually have at least some of their emergency signals activated..red lights and speed limits don't apply. This is silly.

exactly

stop worrying about what the mayor is and is not doing, and pay more attention to when the Blackhawks are going to be eliminated in the race for the Stanley Cup.

I'd be more concerned if they followed regular traffic rules

The entire purpose of a motorcade is security for the official. I don't think driving 15 miles per hour and stopping at red lights would accomplish that goal.

Oh yeah?

Those are fighting words. The Rangers won't make it, is more like it.

Double Standards

So it's okay to speed through school zones, because the safety of the mayor is more important than school children?

Got it.
