Walmart (NOP)

There seems to be a problem with the (NOP) (No overnight parking) comment in "WalMart, Sam's Clubs, and Super WalMart Centers in the United States & Canada"

I have just called four Walmart and one Sam's Club in South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia that were marked as (NOP). They all said overnight parking was welcome at their locations.

An Excel search indicates that there are 2,807 locations out of 5,121 marked with (NOP). That is very different than my experience.

I don't know how to get in contact with the maintainer, but this seems to be a major problem with this file.

Good Luck!

Part of the problem

This was discussed in the local newspaper here a few years ago. I expect that other locations have similar issues. The problem is that in many cities, there are regulations and codes that prevent places like Walmart from allowing overnight parking (e.g., RV overnight camping) yet the cities tend not to issue citations for doing this. Consequently, it is done. There's probably a difference between making a phone call and asking--and what Walmart is permitted to put into print.

I'm not sure that if I maintained the Walmart NOP POI file that I'd want to remove some NOP locations when city code requires NOP.

NOP

When we used to travel with our 5th wheel trailer we pulled into many Walmart parking lots with ONP signs. When we talked to the manager we were almost always allowed to stay over night.

I would think

I would think the store is required to mark the lot per code enforcement requirements. Law enforcement doesn't enforced the code until store management makes a complaint.

It's sort of the same thing with land having signs posted NO HUNTING. Friends of the land owner are welcome but don't you hunt on his land.
