Replace Nuvi 2450 battery

Anyone replace the battery in a Nuvi 2450?

I found this on Amazon for $10.91 + $3.49...

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B7274Q8

The two reviews appear to be credible.

Hmm, I did use Search but I do not remember that link found.

I am old and would never think of looking on youtube for anything.

THANKS!

Just Great!

This review is from: Battery Replacement Kit for Garmin Nuvi 2450 with Installation Video, Tools, and Extended Life Battery.

Battery lasted about a day. Will not hold a charge.
The supplied T5 torx driver is of questionable quality and was not useable.

A waist of time and money.

Newpower 99

I would never make a purchasing decision based on one review. Some users may have less mechanical ability than others.

Newpower99 offers free installation videos on most of the Garmin Nuvi's. I would pay a little more and buy from them rather than much cheaper batteries on Ebay. Always try to get the highest number mAh batteries that will fit your Nuvi since the higher the number the longer the charge lasts.

Here is an Amazon link for a battery replacement on a 760 Nuvi , same company, totally different reviews.

We are old and everything we do we check youtube first.
It is a great place for information.
I look for sewing and painting project help.
It is also a great place to look before you buy anything. Every thing I start to buy I look there for product reviews and how to use products.
My husband looks there for auto information. They have great sites for painting cars and making home paint-booth. Lots of stuff you would not think of.
We put the filter on ours to not let the bad stuff come through so we mostly never get objectionable sites when we serf it.

Sorry to get off track but couldn't resist when I saw your post.

Throw my 2450LM in the trash?

I did order a battery from http://www.amazon.com/Replacement-Nuvi-2450-Installation-Ext....

I could NOT get the little connector to fit on circuit board, and yes I did have the "+" red wire to my left just like the original factory battery. They sent me another one and it also would not fit. I returned both batteries. They DID provide me with very good customer service... very easy to work with.

Next, I bought a battery from BatteryShip.com using the original Garmin part number 361-00051-02. It did fit, but it will not charge. According to BatteryShip their battery using the 361-00051-02 part, does not contain a proprietary chip and their battery only works with the Dezl models.

Interesting

It looks like the one from Amazon was actually sold by NewPower99. Is this correct?

NewPower99 does state that they have a replacement for the nuvi 2450 and also reference the Garmin Part number.

However, as you found, another supplier of nuvi batteries, batteryship, does not offer a battery for any of the 24x0 nuvi models, and the Garmin number 361-00051-02 on batteryship's site specifically does not list any 24x0 nuvi as being compatible.

It could be that NewPower99 is incorrect in offering a battery for your 2450, and their specs mislead you into trying a battery from another vendor which is also incompatible.

My guess was that the actual Garmin battery part number for the 2450 is not 361-00051-02 until I watched the NewPower99 2450 battery replacement video and saw the old battery numbers.

This is of interest to me since my nuvi 2460 appears to have the same issue. Did you, by any chance, save the original Garmin battery? If so, is there a part number? The NewPower99 Youtube video definitely shows the Garmin 361-00051-02 / EF34EF38F00HV being removed from a nuvi 2450 so I'm as confused as you.

Before trashing the 2450, I'll suggest either stopping by a Batteries Plus store and see what they can tell you--or contact Jim at sharcnet

http://www.sharc.net/gps_repair.htm

and see what he suggests.

As a last resort, you could try contacting Garmin Customer Service, but I fear they will take the easy way out and state that your battery is not user replaceable.

One last thought: is there any chance that your charger or charging cable is defective? Have you tried (with the original or current replacement battery) charging with a different cable: 1) the cigarette lighter vehicle cable (a couple hours or more); 2) a USB cable connected to a computer or AC charger (overnight)? What you're thinking was an original weak battery and non-chargeable replacements may simply be a bad cable--or possibly a bad socket on the 2450. If a socket issue, it's one more reason to try to charge by more than one method since the USB charger works through the 2450's micro-USB socket while the cigarette lighter cord uses a mini-USB to the cradle then the cradle connectors from cradle to the GPS. If it is a socket issue, it's doubtful that both sockets would be bad.

Good luck--and thanks for the heads up if I ever need to replace my 2460 battery.

Please let us know what you find.

AFTER MARKET battery

I'll try the options you listed... I'll be back. smile

Holy Sheep!

Garmin wants $110 to exchange, or will give a $110 credit for a new Garmin costing more than $220.

Still researching... I'll be back. smile

P.S. I updated my post above.

"He's dead, Jim"

After a 36 hour charge from the Garmin USB wall plug & 36 hour charge in my truck cradle, in less than 1 hour the battery goes from green to orange... 9% Batt Capacity. (This with screen brightness at 50%.)

So, looks like I am about to "Add to Cart" a 2597LMT.

Mike

Is this an issue?

That is less life than expected, but if the GPS is used in a vehicle and externally powered, is this really a problem?

True, really not a problem for me.

We are not tourist (plan stuff to see), we are travelers (just a general direction, NO plans)... less people the better. We like to hike for 2-4 hours and make sure we can find our truck/camper. I set a waypoint at the truck and then carry the turned off GPS with me.

My wife uses the GPS and I would hate to cause her any problems, so mostly peace of mind so she is safe.

Handheld GPS

If your 2460 is still working OK for car navigation when externally powered, instead of getting a new automotive GPS with a better battery, you might want to consider getting a handheld GPS for your hiking activities. A handheld is a better choice than a nuvi for hiking for many reasons, one being longer lasting and replacable standard AA batteries (alkaline or rechargable NIMH). For example, you can pick up an etrex 20 for about $169. The handhelds typically come with just a base map, but you can easily add free open street maps and/or topo and trail maps.

Well said. As much as nuvis offer pedestrian or cycling modes, they're really way under-batteried to be of much use at all away from a cigarette-lightered power source for anything beyond a "find-the-car" in a shopping center parking lot.

Just bought a new battery at

Just bought a new battery at Newegg for $15 bit didn't come with a Torx 5 so can say if its good yet

I got a replacement battery from New Egg & it works fine.
