RV GPS on iPad

I purchased the Rand McNally RV GPS app for my iPad and am wondering if I can add POI Factory files to it? I would like to add the Pilot Travel Centers as POI to my app. Does anyone know if and how I can do this?
I appreciate any help you could offer

Welcome to the site!

Rand McNally states the app is to be used wth their Dock software and Dock allows the import of custom POI.

The procedure would be to access the GPX version of the Pilot POI file at http://www.poi-factory.com/node/491 and tell it to download the RM CSV version. Follow the instructions in the Dock software to add the POI to your app.

Thank you :)

Thank you so much for your help. I do not have Dock software on my ipad. Where do I get that? I was able to download the CSV version at the link you mentioned but I did that on my laptop. How do I do it on an ipad? I'm so confused.

On the I Pad you have to

On the I Pad you have to work within the features of the app. See http://www.randmcnally.com/support/faqs/will-rv-gps-work-wit... .Other info available on the link such as the dock software for the computer. Last paragraph covering WIFI only is important.

Thank you

I tried to install the dock software on my laptop but it wouldn't let me. It told me to connect my gps device. I tried connecting my ipad with the usb and had the rv app open but it didn't recognize it. I guess I won't be able to add the Pilot POI but that's ok. Thanks again for your help.

continue playing with it

Continue playing with the software on both units. The Dock software goes on the PC and you should be able to install it there. It may need the RV app running on the tablet to do anything, but according to RM's website the two are supposed to work together.

Pilot TC.

The Pilot Travel Centers should already be on your RVND. Look under POI's/Quick stops.

Would you tell us how you

Would you tell us how you like the app in general? What iPad do you have? WiFi only or cell tower connectivity? Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

PC

If you got a newer one that is 64bit/winX, you may have to see if you have it connected to a USB 3.0 port. Blue inside. If so, try a 2.0 port.

Try also to have the xND connected and on and boot the computer. Newer 64 bits do a load sharing on the ports. Also try to run high power in the settings.

If any issues contact me.

Dock

I know it's an old thread, but....

I'm a user of this app.

A couple of things:

1) The docking software does not work with the app, in spite of what their web site says, and numerous exchanges with them about fixing the information.

2) There is no way to get custom POI's into the app.

3) Rand McNally has "no plans" to update the app or the maps. Shame, as it's not a bad product. It has some challenges, but would still prefer it over most GPS units out there, if they would update the maps.
