Rand McNally 720 Crash after UpDates

I Have a RM 720, I downloaded the latest updates and my 720 crashed..I called Rand McNally and explained what happened. Rand McNally stated send the 720 and $99.00 to them and they would fix the 720 and send it back. Is this Rand McNally's normal process, Rand McNally charges you for their screw ups????

Did you try the reset button

Did you try the reset button on the back side? I was having problems installing POI's in mine and that worked for me.
Also, in the "rand McNally dock" under Diagnostics & Repair plus Restore My Data. you may find a solution.

Same problem as you . .

I too had the same problem where the navi.exe would crash and/or it would tell me that I didn't have permission to use the database.

When I told RM about it, I got half a dozen replies that were absolutely useless. I figured out a fix on my own, and now do it at least every month, just to be safe.

1. Install and run the RM Dock software. It's actually pretty handy.
2. Even though the GPS crashes, it doesn't effect the dock, so run the dock and get all the updates. I installed a 32GB memory card in the side of mine for the map updates and I should be good for a very long time.
3. Run the RM Dock, go to Settings & Maintenance, and then Diagnostics & Repair. Run it and then back up the data to your computer.

Mine froze/crashed 4 times over a period of about 11 months, including having the screen itself die and be replaced. Since August when I had the last crash, a monthly routine of update-repair-backup and I have had no problems since. Hopefully the Dock fixed things for you rather than paying another hundred bucks to RM.

They have notoriously poor instructions for a lot of things, and their answers to technical questions usually require me to ask them the same question three or four times, and explain why their "answers" are useless, and they need to try again. If the steps in using the dock doesn't work, then there are more serious issues that might get fixed by resetting, and then running the dock sequence and seeing if that works.

I have the RVND 7710. It work GREAT until... In the spring of 2015 I did the update. It was the LARGEST update they have ever done. It locked up, so I called Rand McNally and explained what happened. They sent me a UPS pickup ticket and I sent it back for them to update. When I received it back, I thought everything would be roses! Was I ever WRONG!! On a 350 mile trip, pulling a 37' 5th wheel RV, it took us down a long winding road. NOT a specified route as programmed. The next screw up was, it kept locking up. (28 miles and my turn was not announced). Luckily I saw it before I passed it by. I called and complained again. They told me to send it it and for $99.00 They would REPAIR it. That was a RUB I didn't need to hear. I told them, they screwed it up and they have to fix it or replace it. I also told them I'm retired and I had time to file and sit in court. Another UPS pickup and they supposedly fixed it. I took it out on a 30 miles trip and it locked up less than 5 miles down the road. I won't know until April 2016 if that was just a glitch or not. NOT HAPPY!! Come April, I have a feeling I'll be filing in court.
