Garmin Express

It would be nice if Garmin would put the version number on their web page. If not for POI Factory, I would not know when a new version comes out. Thanks guys. Not that I will be using it anytime anymore in the near future because of the mishap of erasing my voice files but it would nice to know how many times Garmin is going to use us as Guinea pig before they get it right.

This is like fifth or sixth

This is like fifth or sixth update in last few weeks idea

Just updated

It's now up to 3.0.3.0.

Does anyone know if there is a change log?

.

I really doubt that there's a changelog...and if there were, it probably wouldn't be a true reflection of what has actually been changed since there have been so many releases. I also would not even begin to trust any type of changelog, even if it was provided. rolleyes

Me Too

Thanks for the info on the latest version.

Yes, a change log would be nice.

Is it working?

So, is this version actually working for most people? I've heard so many reports of problems with the software.

That Fast!

It seems Garmin updates GE faster than it takes POI Factory to post it! smile

Express

And I am sure that Garmin is doing thorough testing of each and every version before it is released. Their software testing group must be very talented! rolleyes wink

Ponder This

Suppose Garmin is collecting those voluntary statistics from GE on the failures as they fail and attempting to correct those problems. After all, this forum really only represents a small percentage of Garmin users who are updating all those Garmin units sold with LM updates.

Quite a few users that have no idea of this forum, no idea MapUpdater exists, and are probably burning up the Garmin Support phones and channels with problems updating using GE.

I for one am glad that they are fixing the problems. I updated very early on the day it was released using GE for Mac and had no problems. I've also noticed that GE for windows is the one having problems and subsequent program updates.

I'm not defending Garmin. GE should have been fully vetted before the Map update was released.

update

Thanks for the information about the update. Guess Garmin Express isn't notifying me like it is suppose to.

No Notifies is Good Notifies

I think they gave up notifying long time ago. I haven't gotten any notices in forever, and I have three units.

My personal feeling is that the pace at which Garmin is putting out versions of Express reflects a desire on their part to make it right.

phranc makes a good point that our membership is likely to be a drop in the bucket compared to Garmin's worldwide users.

Based on the comments being made in the various threads dealing with Express and 2014.40, it would seem that Garmin is indeed making slow progress.

Having spent a lot of my career in Information Technology, I have to ask those complaining about whether Garmin has done adequate "testing" to consider the myriad of different "platforms" that make up the universe of users.

How many of us read the "system requirements" before downloading GE?

Think how many different variations of Windows there must be out there! Some of us allow automatic updating so updates and patches get downloaded from time to time. Others don't.

Think how many PCs are inflicted with bloatware, etc and run slowly at best. How many cancelled downloads when they might have finished if left alone [and did not think to use
Task Manager's Processes tab to see if Express was trying].

Now think about how big the maps have gotten. [and as a side note: consider how many of our users assert that Garmin should have realized that maps would get as big as they have and thus should have endowed all units with enough internal memory to be able to load any NA map forever]. I find it hard to place blame on Garmin for selling a low end unit that would not stand up as maps got more detailed and more built in POIs were included. I have to say "Caveat emptor"

I wonder how many anti-virus systems were looking at the downloads trying to determine if the "map" contained malware.

Note that Garmin is also trying to provide map updates for all of the units they have ever sold that could have purchased "lifetime maps".

Hey Hey!

Soooo...

is that 3 or 4 new versions today? I'm impressed!

still won't work on my mac ...

I give up. I will continue to use MapInstaller. Besides, most of what I've read on this forum is GE=junk.

If Garmin keeps going the way it is, it probably won't be around much longer.

optimistic and naive Guinea pigs at their disposal

Garmin's [historically proven] totally inexperienced on-the-job learning software techs love to have an ample number of optimistic and naive Guinea pigs at their disposal.

why complain?

Why are you complaining? After all all of you, who are using Express joined exclusive club of alfa and beta testers. In old days usually it was group of people with better knowledge of device workings than general populations. So just make yourself t-shirt with "I'm proud Garmin beta tester" on it and wear it proudly. smile

On more serious note. It is practice of Garmin from quite some time to release software and let users find problems. I'm just worry that they start doing this same with navigation devices. Then we will have real problem.

BINGO!!! Naive Guinea pigs...and don't even know it!

Upgrading now.... can't wait to see what bugs are in store in this version. LOL

Garmin has been (seemingly) doing this for many years now.

I doubt that the aviation and marine units are subject to this...

Thank You

Off to download.

Thanks for the update. I

Thanks for the update. I just updated it. The new version is 3.0.4.1.
It is strange if we have manually check for every update. Why can not Garmin change it to auto update.

It's strange, because under settings, on mine it is checked "Automatically update Garmin Express when a new version is available", yet I've always had to manually update it.

Mine hasn't auto-updated in awhile

Latest GE?

How do you get 3.0.4.1, I only got 3.0.2? I did a check for latest version and also went to garmin.com.
