I did a couple of routes with the 2597 and found out it's different then my old 855. I looked in the manual and unless I'm overlooking it I can't find what I ran into.
The first route I did in the GPS and when I was done it showed up in saved places with all of the Garmin offices. The second route I did with MapSource and sent it to the GPS. I had trouble finding it and finally found it under apps - trip planner. So the GPS is going to put the routes in two different places depending on how you do them with no option to put them all in one place?
@don
What are you calling a "Route"?
To a place?
or
To a place via other places?

Trip planner info is covered on page 11 "planning or scheduling a trip". Once you use Trip Planner on the GPS to make a route and save it. You will find it under Trip Planner.The way points you set for a route will also show under save places with the other ones(favorites).
Info from Garmin support.

As I explained, The route that ended up in trip planner was one I created with MapSource using the trip tool and clicking a start and a finish, giving me a 68 mile route. I then sent it to the GPS. It didn't give me any save options. The trip that I accessed by choosing the saved option ended up along with the different Garmin headquarters under where to. This route was created by putting an address directly into the GPS
As you may know with the 855 the routes I sent from MapSource had to be imported and was then saved under routes. Apparently some software person decided to change the way it worked. it would be nice to have all routes in the same place. When I saved the one from MapSource I had to go look for it because it gave me no idea where it put it. I was expecting it to be in the same place as the one I had the GPS create.
Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong.
Unfortunately Garmin
Unfortunately Garmin destroyed routing. We have a 765 and a 1490 on the way because it's the only models, the 800 series probably did it too but I'm only familiar with these two, that support 'routing'. We bought a 3000 series, forget the exact model, and that had 'trip planner'. We also don't transfer using MapForce/BaseCamp but export them to gpx and copy them to the device via [GARMIN]/Garmin/gpx and they're available for import. If you use transfer it actually creates a tmp.gpx in that folder. You can do the same thing to later models but instead of having the entire 'route' it takes you from point to point even if you mark it 'shaping point/don't notify'. And if the point is not exactly on the road as you pass it you have to cancel the trip, select the next one in the trip and it will re-calculate. I've emailed Garmin about it and they like their trips and have no plan on supporting routing outside of trips so if you like that functionality I recommend getting the 1400 series asap.
