Updating Garmin attractions?

How does Garmin update their attractions? I searched near my workplace for places to eat, and found several that have been closed for years. Is there a way to get rid of the closed, and post the new open places?
Thanks!

accidental update

There is no way to change POIs in Garmin maps. Even if you would have software to do it I think there is something in maps license that prohibits changing content.

About them updating data. They probably get bulk of POIs from companies like white pages or something similar and just merge it into maps. That's why often you have non existing places or duplicates. If you need correct data just load POIs from pages like this one. They are up to date. Especially small places on Garmin maps are hit or miss.

Navteq POI's In Maps

Garmin has no control over embedded POI's (attractions) that come with every map update.
Navteq, the maker of the maps, adds or removes these locations. You can report an error to them but don't expect any quick results if any.

Remember, according to Garmin, there are millions of these POI's, it would be impossible to have accurate information. In my opinion, it's more of a courtesy and not a function of a GPS.

As member grzesja indicated you can use POI Factory POI's for places that interest you, they are updated far more frequently and certainly more accurate.
