Maps on stnd SD card needed on micro SD card

I purchased maps for Europe for my Nuvi 350 in 2009 and the maps were delivered on a stnd SD card. Now I have a Nuvi 2460 LMT which has a micro SD slot. Can I just copy files from the stnd Sd card to my Mac and then onto a blank micro SD card and expect the maps to work on the Nuvi 2460 LMT?

I can't get a straight answer from Garmin. They can seem to understand that I have maps on a stnd SD card and not on a micro SD card.

Any help would really be appeciated.

sorry

Those maps are locked to that particular card and can't be moved.

Your sd card has a serial number, which is contained it the gmapsupp.unl file on your sd card. That file btw you can open with a text viewer. That's how garmin stops you from copying it and passing it to others. Every sd card has its own serial, so do hardrives and so on.

You might want to call Garmin and explain the situation to them. They may oblige and swap the card out for one in microSD format. After all, if you had purchased it initially on microSD and wanted to use it in an SD Card slot, you'd only need an adapter.

It can't hurt to call and ask...

Maps On Stnd SD Card Needed On Micro SD Card

Thank you for your responses. I did ask Garmin Support and they said I would have to purchase the maps on a microSD. I have one other option which is to purchase an adapter that has a ribbon cable converting the stnd SD to a microSD input. I found it at a website called dx.com for about $7. I'll let you all know if it works.

Just curious

For the OP.
Did you buy the SD card from GARMIN???
Did you specify a micro card?
Did you get a micro card but in a SD card adapter?

I would think GARMIN would send a micro card inside an SD card adapter to cover all bases, just my opinion.

SD v Micro SD

I recently purchased a couple of maps on SD cards for my Montana. They were delivered as standard SD with micro inserts. You have to look really close to spot this.

Although map updates ordered currently from Garmin or other vendors SHOULD come as a Micro SD with a standard apapter which should fit all Nuvi Models.
Back in 2009 when OP purchased the map, micro SD cards slots may not have been existent yet so I think only the standard card was available to member Stewbod.

Since he contacted Garmin already and was advised he would have to make a new purchase on Micro SD card he is out of options. The only thing he can do is use the ribbon cable adapter he mentioned.

They certainly existed in 2009. And Garmin was using them. I got my nuvi 250 in 2008 and it was at the end-of-life then, had been out for several years and was being replaced by the 2x5 series. But it has a micro-sd slot. So yes, it would have made sense for Garmin to offer anything locked to a particular memory card on micro-sd and provide a 2 cent adapter rather than sell their customers maps locked to technology that they were moving away from.

not the only thing

No, this is not the only thing. He can look at the FREE Open Street Maps and forget about using that 5 year old map that he paid Garmin for. I'm very happy using OSM in my old 250, no need to pay Garmin for the updates.

It seems to me that using a micro-SD that would fit into the GPS receiver is a much better solution than using a kluge from DX that exposes parts and and connectors and still uses an old map. And I've bought micro-SD cards that would do the job for less than the DX adapter costs.
