Rand McNaly TND 720 and my own poi files

Hi there,
I just purchased a TND 720 and wish to load my own poi files on it, from what I've read it will recognize .csv files, my question is will it recognize more than the 4 columns that are in the sample? many of my poi's have more than 4 columns in that format.
thanks!

Short Answer - Yes up to 9

Take a look at the excellent work Sandpiper270 did about a year ago on the Rand McNally GPS. It was a December 7, 2012 post at 9:23pm.

If you take a look at the actual user manual for the various RM GPS models, you will find various examples re-enforcing the number of fields and other critical record constraint information.

Beware, while comma separated value (CSV) files are a standard technique for consuming information, what's allowed or not allowed in each field is dependent on the device consuming the CSV file.

GPX to RM CSV

The owner of POI-Factory has programmed a converter that will read a Garmin GPX file and output a Rand NcNally formatted CSV file with up to 9 fields. Garmin and Tom-Tom format CSV files are very limited in their structure and don't take advantage of many of the features found in GPS units. The advantage of a CSV file is that they are easy to build and edit with the trade-off being functionality in the unit. That said, and as others have stated, not all CSV files found here at POI-Factory will load into a RM unit. Garmin is very flexible in what can be found in the fourth field while other manufacturer units are more restrictive regarding both field content and length.

Welcome to the Factory.
