Parked car was caught speeding.

In Chicago.

Quote:

Emanuel transportation officials and the city's speed camera vendor, American Traffic Solutions, both said Kasten's unwarranted warning was a one-off mistake and not indicative of a broader problem with the new system. The camera system operated properly, but employees reviewing the video assigned blame for the speeding to the wrong vehicle, said Deputy Transportation Commissioner Scott Kubly and American Traffic Solutions spokesman Charles Territo.

It's surprising that Chicago would take American Traffic Solutions considering their track record in Baltimore. Especially after dropping Redflex. Oh well, I guess revenue over accuracy.

Apologize

Do the certifying officers in your state swear under oath when they afix their signature (more than likely initials) to a certification of violation? Does everyone who signs a check in your state swear under oath that they have funds in their account to cover the check when it is signed and presented as legal payment?

I apologize, I didn’t realize speed camera tickets did not have to be certified by a police officer under oath.

not in all states

the ones in North Carolina do have to
excerpt from a citation
"THIS VIOLATION WAS NOT COMMITTED IN MY PRESENCE. BASE UPON MY REVIEW AND INSPECTION OF THE RECORDED IMAGES, I STATE THAT A VIOLATION OF THE CARY TOWN CODE 34-303 DID OCCUR. I DECLARE UNDER PENALTY OF PERJURY UNDER THE LAWS OF THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA, THAT THE FOREGOING IS TRUE AND CORRECT."

Another reason to ban them

This is yet another reason these cameras should be banned everywhere. In the meantime, I will do everything I can to avoid driving or parking in the cities that use them.

Thanks for that info

Would be helpful if we had data from citations in other states.

@baumback, your question about perjury was on target.

still another study

5-year snapshot in Tacoma: Red-light cameras cut wrecks

"Early on, traffic accident data didn’t show a clear correlation between the cameras and improved safety. But lately, all the intersections with cameras are seeing slightly fewer accidents than before.

Between 2008 and 2012 — the five-year period after the cameras were installed — reported accidents were down overall at intersections with red-light cameras, according to a News Tribune analysis of city accident data."

"Some find it distasteful that cities would make any amount of money off red-light cameras. State Rep. Chris Hurst, D-Enumclaw, who served as a police officer for 25 years before taking office in the 31st Legislative District, is among them.

“I think it’s an insult against the law enforcement profession to take a public safety issue and make money off it,” Hurst said. “It’s like crack cocaine — the city is addicted and can’t get off it.”

Easy to say, but in some area, they are in ALL the cities around your home or your job location. Are you going to retire and move?

Since they want to use cival law in Arizona

If this happened here it should allow the wrongly ticketed victim to litigate for damages, lost wages and such. Since the system is set up to make you pay rather then challenge the money grab by casing you to lose a days pay, time, inconvenience if fight the injustice!!!

Has everyone heard of the

Has everyone heard of the speed monkey? This is the guy who intentionally and moderately sped through AZ speed cameras with a mask, though they could not lawfully ticket him. It ended up being a real mess for him, of course. They eventually dropped the tickets though.

I am

Usually the first car at the stop line at a red light camera intersection, several times per week, when someone next to me blows the light. I can't wait to post the first time I get a ticket for stopping at the line while someone else proceeds on red. Hasn't happened in over 13 years, but I am a patient man.

?

Why would you want to go through that aggravation? Also, what makes you think you can get out of the ticket? Lastly, what if you're out a few bucks?

Thanks for the link.

LOL. A few people win the lottery. Other people get somebody else's ticket. "After further review, the ticket is confirmed. Johnatash is charged with his second timeout and is out of challenges for the duration of the year."

careful for what you wish for, you could get a red light ticket from another state.

All I can say is Pima County, Arizona is not renewing thiers

Now if this would just catch on statewide. Seems Chucklberry found it was not revenue efficient.

Should be no surprise this

Should be no surprise this happened in Chicago.

Good

Now, if only all of them would follow suit...

wonder

how the radar rlcs will come into play. The name of the game is to throw the book at those who run lights, but to not make mistakes. I'm not really for the $490 tix like in SF CA, but if they're accurate, why not? Just be sure, because there will always be loonies who dispute the pics of their car not reaching the line when the light turned red, and proceeding through the intersection on red.
