POI help 4 newbie (how to get the POIs from POI factory to my computer)

Since you're using Garmin GPS devices, the missing link is POI Loader, software available from Garmin:

I have down loaded the POI Loader from Garmin but for some reason am drawing a blank ..

Ah, whoops, I now reread and see that you need to get the POI files to your computer.

Here's an example using MrKenFL's Rest Areas Combined.

Go to the POI file's page:

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/6643

Click the orange CSV button.

Depending on your browser and browser version, you'll be given a choice to open or save the file. I suggest choosing "Save As," then select the folder you've created on the computer as the Save As location. You'll then be shown the folder, given the option to rename the file, and will also be warned if you're choosing a filename already in use.

Then when using POI Loader, select this folder as your file source.
